HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE
NWS CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER HONOLULU HI
0530 UTC WED MAY 06 2015

BASED ON DATA THROUGH 0500 UTC MAY 06 2015

HIGH PRESSURE FAR NORTHEAST OF THE STATE CONTINUES TO SUPPLY THE
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS WITH COOLING TRADE WINDS. THESE TRADES ARE CARRYING
LOW CLOUDS WESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH. SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS A
BROKEN AREA OF CLOUDS EXITING KAUAI AND NIIHAU...AND ANOTHER ONE
APPROACHING MAUI AND THE CENTRAL ISLANDS. THE LEADING EDGE OF THIS
FIELD APPROACHING MAUI IS 35 MILES EAST OF HANA. THIS AREA IS SHAPED
AS A EAST TO WEST ORIENTED BAND THAT IS 300 MILES LONG AND 80 MILES
WIDE. EXPECT THIS BAND TO MISS THE BIG ISLAND AND AFFECT THE SMALLER
ISLANDS LATER TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.

AT SUNSET...RELATIVELY DRY CONDITIONS PREVAIL ACROSS ALL OF THE
SMALLER ISLANDS WITH LOCALLY BROKEN CLOUDS FAVORING THE WINDWARD AND
MOUNTAIN AREAS. AS FOR THE BIG ISLAND...BROKEN TO OVERCAST LOW
CLOUDS COVERED THE HAMAKUA COAST OF THE BIG ISLAND. THESE CLOUDS
EXTENDED TO 20 MILES OFF THE COASTLINE...AND ALSO DOWN THE COAST TO
THE PUNA DISTRICT. OVERCAST LOW CLOUDS COVERED THE REST OF THE
SLOPES FROM THE VOLCANO AREA TO SOUTH POINT AND CONTINUED UP THE
KONA COAST FINALLY ENDING AT KAWAIHAE. TO WAIKOLOA. BROKEN TO
OVERCAST LOW CLOUDS WERE ALSO PRESENT IN BOTH THE HUMUULA AND WAIMEA
SADDLES. OVERCAST LOW CLOUDS ALSO EXTENDED OUT TO 35 MILES OFF THE
KONA COAST. THE LOW CLOUDS HAD A HEIGHT OF ABOUT 9K FEET.
OTHERWISE...FAIR SKIES RULED THE REST OF THE BIG ISLAND.

ELSEWHERE IMMEDIATELY AROUND THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLAND...LOW CLOUD
COVERAGE BECOMES GENERALLY BROKEN EAST OF 150W OR 300 MILES EAST OF
THE BIG ISLAND. BROKEN LOW CLOUDS ARE ALSO PRESENT SOUTHEAST TO
SOUTH OF THE BIG ISLAND. THE LOW CLOUDS JUST EXITING KAUAI COUNTY IS
PART OF A LARGER CLOUD MASS EXTENDING TO 400 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST
AND TO 200 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF KAUAI. THIS CLOUD MASS HAD A
WIDTH OF 170 MILES.

ELSEWHERE ON SATELLITE...A FRONT IS LOCATED 740 MILES NORTHWEST OF
KAUAI WITH THE COORDINATES OF 30N167W 27N172W 25N180W. PORTION OF
THE FRONT EAST OF 175W IS DRIFTING EASTWARD SLOWLY WHILE THE
REMAINING PORTION IS STATIONARY. BROKEN STABLE LOW CLOUDS RULED THE
AREA NORTH OF THE FRONT WHICH ALSO INCLUDED MIDWAY ATOLL.

IN THE TROPICS...A CLUSTER OF MODERATE TO STRONG THUNDERSTORMS IS
LOCATED 1020 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE BIG ISLAND...BETWEEN 143W AND
151W FROM 06N TO 02N. THE STORMS HAD A HEIGHT OF 57K FEET. WIDELY
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS RULED THE AREA SOUTH OF 10N BETWEEN THE
