..GLEASON.. 04/27/2015

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0143 AM CDT MON APR 27 2015/

...SYNOPSIS...
IN THE MID LEVELS...A MULTI-STREAM FLOW PATTERN WILL COVER THE
CONUS. A CYCLONE EMBEDDED WITHIN THE SRN STREAM WILL TRACK ACROSS
THE SRN PLAINS...WHILE THE SRN EXTENT OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH TRACKING
ACROSS PARTS OF THE CANADIAN PRAIRIE PROVINCES TRAVERSES PORTIONS OF
THE NRN PLAINS. W OF THESE FEATURES...A MID-LEVEL RIDGE WILL
PROGRESS EWD ACROSS PARTS OF THE WRN STATES. A SFC ANTICYCLONE OVER
PARTS OF THE CNTRL GREAT BASIN WILL WEAKEN AS SUBSIDENT FLOW ALOFT
BETWEEN THE AFOREMENTIONED CYCLONE AND TROUGH...AND THE UPSTREAM
RIDGE...LESSENS. FARTHER W...A MID-LEVEL IMPULSE WILL APPROACH THE
PACIFIC NW LATE IN THE PERIOD.

...PORTIONS OF THE SRN CA COASTAL RANGES AND ADJACENT FOOTHILLS...
THE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL BE RELATIVELY ENHANCED THROUGH THIS
MORNING ACROSS THE AREA -- I.E. ON THE SWRN PERIPHERY OF THE CNTRL
GREAT BASIN ANTICYCLONE. AS A RESULT...NELY TO ENELY SFC WINDS
AROUND 15-20 MPH /STRONGER ON AN ISOLATED BASIS/ WITH HIGHER GUSTS
ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR THROUGH THIS MORNING ACROSS THE COASTAL RANGES
AND ADJACENT FOOTHILLS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES AND
VICINITY. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR THROUGH FAVORED
PASSES AND CANYONS. DOWNSLOPE-FLOW-ENCOURAGED WARMING/DRYING WILL
SUPPORT RH VALUES FALLING TO 10-20 PERCENT THROUGH THE DAY AS
DIURNAL HEATING OCCURS. THESE FACTORS WILL SUPPORT ELEVATED TO
PERHAPS LOCALLY/BRIEFLY BORDERLINE-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.
HOWEVER...THE SFC PRESSURE GRADIENT IS FORECAST TO WEAKEN THROUGH
THE DAY...YIELDING A DECREASE IN WIND SPEEDS WHILE RH IS LOWERING.
THIS SHOULD MINIMIZE THE TEMPORAL OVERLAP OF CRITICALLY STRONG WINDS
WITH CRITICALLY LOW RH. FURTHERMORE...FUELS ARE ONLY MARGINALLY DRY
ACROSS THE AREA...WITH SOME LOCATIONS HAVING RECEIVED RECENT
PRECIPITATION TO FURTHER FACILITATE FUEL MOISTENING. FOR THESE
REASONS...A CRITICAL AREA HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED.
