Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
220 PM MDT SAT APR 18 2015

.DISCUSSION...A cold front sliding down the Rocky Mountain Front
will continue to bring a few light valley rain and mountain snow
showers into this evening, mainly along the Divide. The pressure
gradient has also tightened enough to allow many areas to see wind
gust of 20-25 mph. Fortunately winds will diminish after sunset
with the loss of heating.

Daytime heating will act upon residual moisture Sunday afternoon
to bring a few pop up showers, mainly near the Divide. Otherwise
it will be a dry and seasonable spring day. High pressure will
gradually build across the Northern Rockies early next week
leading to dry and warmer conditions. In fact, high temperatures
are expected to range from 10-15 degrees above normal while
overnight lows remain near seasonable levels.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through next weekend, forecast
models have featured considerable inconsistency with the
location/timing of various weather producing features.
Fortunately, these models are in general agreement the area will
see mild temperatures with a daily round of scattered showers and
perhaps a few thunderstorms, especially over the higher terrain.

.AVIATION...A building ridge over the area will keep aviation
impacts to a minimum at area terminals. KBTM will be affected by
some vicinity showers this afternoon as a shortwave digs south
along the Continental Divide, but it is not expected to directly
impact the terminal. Prescribed forest burning and agricultural
burning is very active in the area, so some noticeable smoke is
likely. However, smoke is not expected cause any visibility
limitations at area terminals today or tonight.
