THE COALFIELDS WERE UNDER MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES...WITH LIGHT
DRIZZLE AND SHOWERS MOVING ACROSS THE SOUTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE
REGION THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES AT 7 AM GENERALLY RANGED FROM
THE MID 50S IN THE VALLEYS TO THE LOWER 60S ON THE RIDGES. TYPICAL
LOWS FOR THIS DAY IN APRIL ARE IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S. BY MID
MORNING...SHOWERS WERE OVERSPREADING EASTERN KENTUCKY. RAINFALL
TOTALS FROM THESE SHOWERS AVERAGED LESS THAN A QUARTER OF AN INCH.

BY MID AFTERNOON...THERE WAS A BRIEF LULL IN SHOWER ACTIVITY AS
SHOWERS CONTINUED TO MOVED NORTHEAST OUT OF THE REGION.
HOWEVER...BY LATE AFTERNOON...ANOTHER ROUND OF SHOWERS HAD BEGUN
TO MOVE NORTHEAST ACROSS THE SOUTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE REGION.
TEMPERATURES WERE GENERALLY IN THE 60S. NORMAL LOWS FOR TODAY
RANGE FROM THE UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GUSTY WINDS AND
BRIEF...HEAVY RAINFALL...WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING THEN TAPER
OFF TONIGHT. THERE WILL BE A BRIEF LULL IN PRECIPITATION OVERNIGHT
TONIGHT BEFORE A COLD FRONT APPROACHES THE REGION TOWARDS DAWN.
SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM CHANCES RETURN MONDAY THOUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON. SOME OF THESE STORMS COULD BE SEVERE...WITH DAMAGING
WINDS BEING THE MAIN THREAT. LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL COULD LEAD TO
ISOLATED INSTANCES OF FLOODING. LOWS TONIGHT WILL RANGE FROM THE
MID 50S TO UPPER 50S. HIGHS ON MONDAY WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE
UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S.

ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...IN 1963...SEVERE WEATHER CAUSED
DAMAGE ACROSS PORTIONS OF EASTERN KENTUCKY. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
BLEW DOWN TREES IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY AND DESTROYED 5 BARNS IN
ROCKCASTLE COUNTY. A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN PULASKI COUNTY...
DEMOLISHING A GARAGE...TAKING THE ROOF OFF A COMMERCIAL
BUILDING...AND DOWNING NUMEROUS TREES AND POWER LINES.
