EASTERN KENTUCKY WAS UNDER MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH LOCATIONS
IN THE SOUTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE AREA EXPERIENCING SHOWERS AND A
FEW THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING. TWENTY FOUR HOUR RAINFALL TOTALS
VARIED FROM LITTLE MORE THAN TRACE AMOUNTS TO AROUND A QUARTER OF
AN INCH. TEMPERATURES AT 7 AM WERE IN THE 50S...WHICH IS WARMER
THAN TYPICAL LOWS IN THE MID 40S FOR MID APRIL.

BY MID MORNING...WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS
WERE MOVING ACROSS THE COALFIELDS. BY MID AFTERNOON...MOST OF THE
SHOWER ACTIVITY WAS MOVING ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN PORTION OF THE
REGION. RAINFALL TOTALS SINCE 7 AM THIS MORNING RANGED FROM A
HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH TO 1.2 INCHES. THE HIGHER AMOUNTS OCCURRED
MAINLY NORTH AND ALONG THE HAL ROGERS PARKWAY. DESPITE CLOUD
COVER AND RAINFALL...TEMPERATURES MANAGED TO REACH NORMAL AND
ABOVE VALUES RANGING FROM THE MID 60S TO LOWER 70S. NORMAL HIGHS
FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE GENERALLY IN THE MID 60S.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE INTO
THE AREA FROM THE SOUTHWEST DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE EVENING
AND OVERNIGHT HOURS. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE IN THE LOW TO MID 50S.
UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE END OF THE
WORKWEEK...WITH AT LEAST A CHANCE OF RAIN EACH DAY. TEMPERATURES
WILL RUN SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL...WITH DAILY HIGHS AROUND TO
AROUND 70 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS GENERALLY DROPPING INTO THE 50S.

ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...IN 2002...UNSEASONABLY WARM AIR
HELPED SEND THE MERCURY INTO THE MID 80S...GOOD ENOUGH TO
ESTABLISH A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE AT BOTH THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT. JACKSON HAD A HIGH OF 87
DEGREES...WHILE THE MERCURY PEAKED AT 86 DEGREES AT LONDON.
CLIMATE RECORDS FOR JACKSON AND LONDON DATE BACK TO 1981 AND 1954
RESPECTIVELY.
