HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE

BASED ON DATA THROUGH 1800 UTC MAY 06 2015

AS OF 800 AM HST...SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED A FRONTAL BOUNDARY
EXTENDING SOUTHWEST FROM 30N167W TO 25N180...WHICH WAS AROUND 700
MILES NORTHWEST OF KAUAI. THIS BOUNDARY WAS MOVING EASTWARD AROUND
10 MPH NORTH OF 28N AND NEARLY STATIONARY ELSEWHERE. CLOUD TOPS
WERE BELOW 20000 FEET SOUTH OF 30N ALONG THE BOUNDARY. SCATTERED TO
BROKEN STABLE STRATOCUMULUS WERE LOCATED WEST OF THIS BOUNDARY
BETWEEN 28N AND 30N FROM 172W TO THE DATELINE.

A BATCH OF BROKEN TO OVERCAST LOW CLOUDS WERE IMPACTING PORTIONS OF
THE ISLANDS...ESPECIALLY OVER KAUAI...OAHU AND MOLOKAI. HIGHEST
CLOUD TOPS WERE SHOWN JUST NORTH OF OAHU AND EXTENDED UP TO AROUND
25000 FEET. ELSEWHERE...CLOUD TOPS WERE MOSTLY BETWEEN 10000 AND
20000 FEET WITHIN THIS AREA. MOST OF THE CLOUD COVERAGE OVER MAUI
AND THE BIG ISLAND WAS FOCUSED OVER THE WINDWARD SLOPES WITH MOSTLY
CLEAR CONDITIONS PREVAILING OVER THE LEEWARD SIDES. MOSTLY CLEAR
CONDITIONS WERE ALSO SHOWN OVER NIIHAU AND LANAI. FARTHER EAST AND
NORTHEAST OF THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS...SCATTERED TO BROKEN LOW
CLOUDS WERE SHOWN TRACKING WEST-SOUTHWEST WITHIN THE TRADE WINDS AT
15 TO 20 MPH.

CLUSTERS OF MODERATE CONVECTION WITHIN THE ITCZ WERE OCCURRING WELL
SOUTH OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS BETWEEN THE EQUATOR AND 10N. DEBRIS
CLOUDS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ACTIVITY WERE SHOWN LIFTING
NORTHEASTWARD BETWEEN 10N AND 15N FROM 165W TO THE DATELINE.
