THE COLD WINTER HELD ON TOUGH THROUGH THE FIRST PART OF APRIL. WINTER`S
LAST GASP CAME ON APRIL 8 AND 9 WHEN THE FINAL 2.8 INCHES OF SNOW OF
THE SEASON FELL. BUT SPRING ARRIVED VERY QUICKLY AFTERWARDS. BY APRIL
12 THE TEMPERATURE SOARED TO 66 DEGREES. PRIOR TO THIS POINT THE
TEMPERATURE HAD ONLY TOPPED 50 DEGREES TWICE ALL YEAR. THIS WAS JUST THE
START OF A STRETCH OF 8 STRAIGHT DAYS ABOVE 50 DEGREES, WITH 5 OF THE
NEXT 6 DAYS SURPASSING 60 DEGREES. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH
WAS 69 DEGREES ON APRIL 13. ALTHOUGH THE MONTH STARTED OFF WITH 11
INCHES OF SNOW ON THE GROUND, IT HAD ALL MELTED BY THE MORNING OF APRIL
17. THE WEATHER PATTERN BEGAN TO SHIFT AGAIN TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE
MONTH. HEAVY RAIN FELL ON APRIL 20 AND 21, THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT RAIN
STORM SINCE EARLY DECEMBER. TEMPERATURES THEN TURNED COOLER AGAIN AND
WERE BELOW NORMAL FOR MOST OF THE REST OF THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 43.3 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.0 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. THIS MARKED THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE MONTH OF BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY. THE WARMEST
APRIL WAS 2010 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 49.0 DEGREES. THE COLDEST
WAS 2003 AT 41.1 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 3.49 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.89 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. MUCH OF THAT FELL ON APRIL 20 AND 21 WHEN 2.44 INCHES OF RAIN
WAS MEASURED. THE WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD WAS 2005 WHEN 10.62 INCHES
FELL. THE DRIEST WAS 1999 WITH ONLY 0.35 INCHES.

3.0 INCHES OF SNOW FELL WHICH WAS 1.8 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE
SNOWIEST APRIL SINCE 2011. THE SNOWIEST APRIL ON RECORD WAS 2007 WHEN
27.2 INCHES FELL. THE LEAST SNOWY APRIL WAS 1999 WHEN NO SNOW FELL. IN
THE SHORT 20 YEAR HISTORY OF OBSERVATIONS AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY THERE HAVE BEEN 3 OTHER YEARS WHICH ONLY
RECORDED A TRACE OF SNOWFALL.
