...POTENT PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM TO IMPACT NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
NEW MEXICO WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...

A POTENT PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY MOVING INTO THE GREAT
BASIN AND WILL PUSH TOWARD THE FOUR CORNERS OVERNIGHT...THEN STALL
OVER NEW MEXICO AND EASTERN ARIZONA THROUGH FRIDAY BEFORE MOVING
OUT ON SATURDAY. INITIAL IMPACTS WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL BE STRONG
WINDS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING BOTH AHEAD OF AND BEHIND THE
PACIFIC COLD FRONT. A FEW DRY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST
AHEAD OF THE FRONT AS WELL...WHICH WILL HELP TO ENHANCE ALREADY
STRONG WIND GUSTS FORECAST. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST MAY DEVELOP BY
LATE DAY OVER THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY BETWEEN SANTA FE...ALBUQUERQUE
AND SOCORRO.

A COLD AIRMASS WILL MOVE IN BEHIND THE PACIFIC COLD FRONT WEDNESDAY
NIGHT AND HANG OVER THE AREA THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY WITH BELOW TO
WELL BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THIS COOL SNAP WILL BE A NOTICEABLE
DIFFERENCE FROM THE RECENT WARM WEATHER. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES
WILL BE EXPERIENCED NORTH AND WEST...WITH LOWS IN THE 20S. A FREEZE
IS FORECAST IN THE SANTA FE METRO AREA BOTH WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND
THURSDAY NIGHT. A LIGHT FREEZE IS POSSIBLE IN THE ALBUQUERQUE
VALLEY BOTH WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY NIGHT...BUT MOST OF THE
CITY WILL SEE LOWS IN THE MID 30S.

THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING VERY GOOD CHANCES FOR PRECIPITATION TO MUCH
OF NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO FROM THURSDAY THROUGH
FRIDAY NIGHT. SNOW LEVELS WILL BE LOW ENOUGH DURING THAT TIME FOR
SOME SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATION IN THE SANGRE DE CRISTO
MOUNTAINS...GENERALLY ABOVE 8500 FEET WHERE AMOUNTS BETWEEN 6 AND
12 INCHES WILL BE COMMON. LOCATIONS SUCH AS RED RIVER MAY SEE
BETWEEN 5 AND 10 INCHES OF SNOW...BUT SOME MELTING IS EXPECTED
INITIALLY GIVEN THE RECENT WARM WEATHER. ONLY MINOR IMPACTS FROM
ACCUMULATING SNOW ARE EXPECTED BELOW 8500 FEET AT THIS TIME.
TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL ON SATURDAY WITH A FEW SHOWERS
LINGERING AS THE SYSTEM MOVES OUT TO THE NORTHEAST.

PERSONS WITH TRAVEL OR OUTDOOR PLANS IN THE NORTHERN TWO THIRDS
OF NEW MEXICO WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY SHOULD MONITOR
WEATHER.GOV/ABQ...NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR THEIR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET
FOR UPDATED FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS ON THIS POTENT PACIFIC STORM
SYSTEM.
