...COLDER AND SOMEWHAT ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN SHAPING UP FOR
PORTIONS OF NEW MEXICO...

A STRENGTHENING MID AND UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WAS
APPROACHING THE FOUR CORNERS THIS EVENING WILL MOVE SLOWLY SOUTHEAST
INTO NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO LATER THURSDAY THEN LOOP BACK NORTHEAST
INTO SOUTHERN COLORADO BY FRIDAY. COLDER AIR FUNNELING ON THE WEST
AND SOUTH SIDE OF THIS LOW WILL PERMEATE AT LEAST THE WEST HALF OF
THE STATE TONIGHT. MODERATE TO HARD FREEZES ARE LIKELY FOR MOST
NORTHERN AND WESTERN VALLEYS TONIGHT WITH SOME OF THE LOWEST
SECTIONS OF THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY SEEING TEMPERATURES
APPROACHING THE FREEZING MARK BRIEFLY EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. THE
SOONER THE PATCHY CLOUDS CAN CLEAR OUT OF THE LATTER AREA THE MORE
LIKELY THOSE NEAR FREEZING TEMPERATURES COULD BE REALIZED.

BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS WITH WELL BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL
CONTINUE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY ACROSS THE WEST HALF TO TWO THIRDS OF
THE STATE...WHILE SPOTTY SNOW SHOWERS BEGIN FALLING ACROSS THE
NORTHERN HIGH TERRAIN. HARD FREEZES ARE POSSIBLE ONCE AGAIN THURSDAY
NIGHT OVER NORTHERN AND WESTERN VALLEYS WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE
FREEZES POSSIBLE ACROSS THE SANTA FE METRO AND ALBUQUERQUE VALLEY
REGIONS. FRIDAY NIGHT SHOULD BE A BIT WARMER...BUT LIGHT TO
MODERATE FREEZES COULD AGAIN OCCUR ACROSS MANY NORTHERN AND WESTERN
VALLEYS. AGAIN...THE FEWER THE CLOUDS THAT REMAIN OVERNIGHT ACROSS
THESE AREAS THE COLDER THE LOW TEMPERATURES COULD GET.

THE MORE RECENT FORECAST MODEL TRENDS ARE TRACKING THE LOW FARTHER
NORTH AFTER ITS INITIAL DIP INTO NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO WHICH WILL
LIKELY MEAN SIGNIFICANTLY LESS PRECIPITATION COVERAGE AND AMOUNTS
FOR THE STATE...ESPECIALLY THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS REGION EAST TO THE
NORTHEAST PLAINS. SNOWFALL OF A FEW INCHES IS STILL POSSIBLE IN THE
HIGH TERRAIN OF THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS...BUT UNLESS THE LOW TRACKS
SIGNIFICANTLY FARTHER SOUTH ACROSS THE STATE...WHICH IS STILL A
SMALL POSSIBILITY...THAT IS ABOUT ALL THAT CAN BE EXPECTED THERE.
OTHERWISE...CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN BREEZY TO WINDY FOR MOST OF THE
AREA THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

PERSONS WITH TRAVEL OR OUTDOOR PLANS OVER NORTHERN NEW MEXICO TONIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY SHOULD MONITOR WEATHER.GOV/ABQ...NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR
THEIR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET FOR UPDATED FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS ON
THIS WEATHER SYSTEM.
