SPOTTER REPORTS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CARIBOU ME

...THE 20 BELOW MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDED AT BIG BLACK RIVER ON
APRIL 6TH 2015...

THE 20 BELOW ZERO MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDED AT BIG BLACK RIVER ON
APRIL 6TH 2015 WILL REMAIN AN UNOFFICIAL MAINE LOW TEMPERATURE FOR
APRIL AT THIS TIME.

ALTHOUGH THE TEMPERATURE INSTRUMENT AT BIG BLACK RIVER WAS RECENTLY
CALIBRATED WITHIN PLUS OR MINUS 0.2 DEGREES LAST MONTH AND IS BACKED
UP BY SEVERAL 19 BELOW ZERO READINGS NEARBY ON THE MORNING OF APRIL
6TH...THE PROBLEM IS THAT (TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE) NO OFFICIAL
LISTING OF MONTHLY RECORD HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES EXISTS FOR THE
STATE OF MAINE AT THIS TIME TO COMPARE ANY NEW EXTREME MONTHLY
TEMPERATURE OCCURRENCES. THE STATE CLIMATOLOGY OFFICE FOR EACH STATE
DETERMINES WHAT METEOROLOGICAL RECORDS THEY MONITOR...AND THE STATE
OF MAINE IS ONE THAT APPEARS NOT TO HAVE A LISTING OF MONTHLY
EXTREME TEMPERATURES.

IN THE EVENT WE FIND A PREVIOUSLY SANCTIONED MONTHLY EXTREME
TEMPERATURE LIST FOR MAINE...OR IF THE STATE CLIMATOLOGY OFFICE
PRODUCES A LIST IN THE FUTURE...WE WILL UPDATE THIS DECISION AT SOME
FUTURE POINT. FOR THOSE INTERESTED AND WAITING FOR THE OUTCOME OF
THIS DECISION... THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
