AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT
1027 AM MDT THU APR 30 2015

.SYNOPSIS...A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL STALL ACROSS CENTRAL UTAH
TODAY. A MILD WESTERLY FLOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION FRIDAY
THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH A GRADUAL INCREASE IN MOISTURE.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A COLD FRONT MOVED THROUGH NORTHERN UTAH AND
SOUTHWEST WYOMING OVERNIGHT...AND IS EXPECTED TO STALL ACROSS THE
CENTRAL PORTION OF UTAH LATER TODAY. THIS BOUNDARY IS EXPECTED TO
BE THE FOCUS OF AFTERNOON CONVECTION...IN ADDITION TO THE TYPICAL
BUILD-UPS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE NORTH
WILL BE A FEW DEGREES COOLER THAN YESTERDAY...BUT STILL AS MANY AS
10 DEGREES ABOVE SEASONAL NORMALS.

THOUGH THE COLD FRONT WILL HAVE SOME IMPACTS ON UTAH WEATHER...THE
PARENT TROUGH ITSELF WILL REMAIN WELL NORTH OF THE CWA...AND WILL
SLIDE OFF INTO THE GREAT PLAINS THIS EVENING. THIS WILL LEAD TO
HIGH PRESSURE OVER MUCH OF THE SOUTHWESTERN CONUS FOR FRIDAY AND
HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND...THOUGH ENOUGH MOISTURE WILL LIKELY
LINGER TO ALLOW FOR CONTINUED AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

UPDATED THE FORECAST EARLIER THIS MORNING TO INCREASE SKY
COVER...ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHERN UTAH WHERE SOME THICKER CIRRUS
IS FLOWING OVER THE AREA. WILL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON POPS THROUGH
THE AFTERNOON...ESPECIALLY IN PLACES LIKE NORTHERN UTAH WHERE
THERE IS NOT CURRENTLY A MENTION OF PRECIPITATION.
HOWEVER...CURRENT RADAR ECHOES ACROSS NORTHERN UTAH DO NOT APPEAR
TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTUAL PRECIPITATION HITTING THE
GROUND...AND IN GENERAL THE FOCUS OF CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY SHOULD BE
SOUTH OF THE SALT LAKE VALLEY...SO HAVE LEFT POPS UNCHANGED FOR
NOW.

&&

.AVIATION...THE SLC TERMINAL WILL SEE VFR CONDITIONS THROUGH THE DAY
WITH GENERALLY SCATTERED CLOUDS. NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN NORTHWEST THROUGH THE DAYTIME HOURS.
