..........APRIL 2015 WETTER AND WARMER THAN NORMAL..........

AFTER A DRY MARCH...MUCH NEEDED PRECIPITATION FELL IN DENVER DURING
THE MONTH OF APRIL. TEMPERATURES WERE JUST ABOVE NORMAL WITH NO
LARGE TEMPERATURE SWINGS DURING THE MONTH. THE FIRST HALF OF THE
MONTH WAS WARMER AND DRIER THAN NORMAL WITH TWELVE OUT OF THE FIRST
FIFTEEN DAYS HAVING ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND ONLY 0.28 INCHES
OF PRECIPITATION DURING THIS PERIOD.

THE LATTER HALF OF APRIL TURNED COOLER AND MUCH WETTER AS A COUPLE
OF LARGE STORM STORM SYSTEMS MOVED ACROSS THE REGION. A LARGE FOUR
CORNERS LOW DEVELOPED ON THE 16TH AND SLOWLY TRACKED ACROSS SOUTHERN
AND CENTRAL COLORADO THROUGH THE 18TH. THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT
BENEFICIAL RAIN AND SNOW TO THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR. DENVER
MEASURED 1.52 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WITH THIS STORM ALONG WITH 4.1
INCHES OF SNOWFALL. ONE TO THREE FEET OF HEAVY WET SNOW FELL IN THE
FOOTHILLS WEST OF DENVER AS WELL.

ANOTHER CLOSED LOW DEVELOPED OVER WESTERN NEW MEXICO ON THE 26TH AND
TRACKED INTO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE BY THE 27TH. THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT
COOLER TEMPERATURES AND AN ADDITIONAL 0.84 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION
TO DENVER PRECIPITATION FROM THE 26TH THROUGH THE 27TH...WITH NO
SNOW MEASURED AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. HOWEVER...6 TO 12
INCHES OF SNOW FELL IN THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS WITH AS MUCH AS
18 INCHES IN PARK COUNTY.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH OF APRIL WAS 48.7 DEGREES F WHICH WAS 1.3 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. APRIL OF 1981 WAS THE WARMEST APRIL ON RECORD...WITH AN
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 56.4 DEGREES F.  THE COLDEST APRIL ON RECORD
WAS 38.8 DEGREES F BACK IN 1920. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
MONTH WAS 79 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 30TH. THE COLDEST
TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 27 DEGREES ON THE MORNING OF THE 3RD.

PRECIPITATION:

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
WAS 2.65 INCHES...WHICH IS 0.94 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.71
INCHES. THERE WERE 9 DAYS WITH MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION. ON THE
16TH...1.22 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH IS THE GREATEST DAILY
AMOUNT FOR THE MONTH.
