DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT...

THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL. MONTHLY
PRECIPITATION WAS ABOVE NORMAL.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME BACK-TO-BACK YEARS HAD BELOW NORMAL MONTHLY
AVERAGE TEMPERATURES IN JANUARY FEBRUARY AND MARCH SINCE 1987-1988.

PRELIMINARILY...2015 APPEARS TO BE OFF TO THE THIRD COLDEST START OF
ANY YEAR ON RECORD WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 31.8 DEGREES.

A RECORD DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE OF 9 DEGREES WAS SET ON THE 6TH. THIS
BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 15 SET IN 1978. A RECORD DAILY LOW MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE OF 27 DEGREES WAS ALSO SET ON THE 6TH...BREAKING THE OLD
RECORD OF 32 SET IN 2007.

A SECOND RECORD DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE OF 2 DEGREES WAS SET ON THE
7TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 14 SET IN 1985.

A SECOND RECORD DAILY LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 37 DEGREES WAS SET
ON THE 28TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 39 SET IN 1996. THIS ALSO
WAS THE COLDEST DAY FOR SO LATE IN THE SEASON AT DULLES SINCE MARCH
30TH 1964...WHICH HAD A HIGH OF 37 DEGREES.

MONTHLY SNOWFALL WAS ABOVE NORMAL. THIS IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE
MARCH WITH ABOVE NORMAL SNOWFALL...AND THE FIRST TIME THREE
CONSECUTIVE MARCHES HAVE HAD ABOVE NORMAL SNOWFALL ON RECORD AT
IAD.

A RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL OF 9.5 INCHES WAS SET ON THE
5TH...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 1.0 INCH SET IN 2001. THIS WAS ALSO
THE HIGHEST CALENDAR DAY SNOWFALL IN THE MONTH OF MARCH SINCE MARCH
13TH 1993.
