...EARLY SNOW MELT RUNOFF SEASON FOR NORTHERN ROCKIES...

NORMALLY THE NORTHERN ROCKIES WOULD SEE SNOW MELT RUNOFF SEASON
PEAK IN JUNE. THIS YEAR WE ARE ALREADY SEEING SIGNIFICANT RUNOFF
INTO STREAMS AND RIVERS IN EARLY MAY...3 TO 4 WEEKS EARLY. SNOW
HAS ALREADY MELTED OUT AT ELEVATIONS BELOW 8000 FEET AND HIGH
ELEVATION SNOWPACK ABOVE THIS ELEVATION HAS REACHED THE POINT THAT
IT WILL BEGIN TO MELT OUT AT A FASTER RATE.

THE THREAT OF RIVER FLOODING IS VERY LOW AT THIS TIME. MOST RIVER
BASINS ARE SHOWING ONLY 60 TO 75 PERCENT OF NORMAL SNOWPACK FOR
EARLY MAY. DESPITE THIS LACK OF SNOWPACK WE COULD STILL SEE SOME
HIGH PULSES OF WATER IF SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION OCCURS OVER THE
MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS DURING THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

WITH HIGHER FLOWS THAN WE TYPICALLY SEE THIS TIME OF YEAR...BE
EXTRA CAUTIOUS AROUND RIVERS AND STREAMS.
