SATELLITE PRECIPITATION ESTIMATES..DATE/TIME 04/25/15 0528Z
SATELLITE ANALYSIS BRANCH/NESDIS---NPPU---TEL.301-683-1404
LATEST DATA USED: GOES-13 0515Z HEEPS
.
LOCATION...CENTRAL ALABAMA...CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI...
.
ATTN WFOS...BMX...HUN...MEG...JAN...
ATTN RFCS...SERFC...LMRFC...
.
EVENT...SATELLITE FEATURE FOR MOD/HVY RAIN EVENT
.
SATELLITE ANALYSIS AND TRENDS...LATEST RADAR IMAGERY INDICATES A
QUASI-LINEAR CONVECTIVE SYSTEM MOVING EWRD THRU NWRN MS/SRN AR/NRN
LA AHEAD OF EMBEDDED S/WV SEEN IN WV IMAGERY MOVING EWRD ALONG THE
TX/OK BORDER. PW VALUES ARE QUITE ANOMALOUSLY HIGH ACROSS THE REGION
GNRLY BTWN 1.6-1.8" PER BLENDED TPW...WHICH IS AOA +2 STD DEV IN THE
REGION. INSTABILITY IS A BIT MORE MARGINAL WITH MUCAPE VALUES EXCEEDING
1000 J/KG REMAINING BACK IN SRN SR/NRN LA. SSW LLJ ALSO APPEARS TO BE
AIDING CONVECTION WITH VWP DATA FROM DGX INDICATING INCREASING WINDS
OVER THE PAST FEW HRS UP TO 45 KTS. THIS LLJ SHOULD HELP ADVECT HIGHER
MOISTURE VALUES OUT AHEAD/INTO QLCS.
.
AN ANNOTATED SATELLITE GRAPHIC SHOWING THE HEAVY PRECIPITATION
THREAT AREA SHOULD BE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET ADDRESS LISTED
BELOW IN APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES.
.
SHORT TERM OUTLOOK VALID 0535Z-0835Z...MEDIUM/HIGH CONFIDENCE FACTOR
IN SHORT TERM OUTLOOK...CONVECTION DOWNWIND OF MCS HAS ALREADY MOVED
INTO AREA OF DISCUSSION...AND THE QLCS SHOULD BE MOVING INTO THE AREA
WITHIN THE HOUR. ALTHOUGH INSTABILITY HAS BEEN NOTED TO BE RELATIVELY
MARGINAL...INCREASING LLJ/MOISTURE FLUX AND ENHANCED FORCING FOR ASCENT
FROM EMBEDDED S/WV SHOULD ALLOW FOR CONVECTION TO PERSIST OVER THE NEXT
SEVERAL HRS. RECENT OBS FROM NWS MESONET INDICATE RAIN RATES GNRLY BTWN
0.5"-1.0"/HR ACROSS SRN AR AND INTO WRN MS...WITH SOME OBS EXCEEDING
1"/HR SPECIFICALLY IN SRN AR. IMAGINE THAT BIGGEST AREA OF CONCERN WOULD
BE ACROSS CENT MS AND POSSIBLY INTO FAR W CENT AL LATER INTO THE PERIOD
WITH CONVECTION CURRENTLY MOVING THRU AFOREMENTIONED AREAS OUT AHEAD OF
MAIN MCS FEATURE.
