AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT
948 PM MDT SAT MAY 2 2015

.SYNOPSIS...A MILD AND INCREASINGLY MOIST WEST TO SOUTHWEST FLOW
WILL REMAIN OVER UTAH THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. A SLOW MOVING
DISTURBANCE WILL IMPACT THE REGION WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A WEST TO SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT REMAINS IN PLACE ACROSS
UTAH THIS EVENING. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES RANGE BETWEEN 0.4 TO
0.6 INCHES ACROSS MOST VALLEY AREAS. HOWEVER...THE LOWER LEVELS
REMAINED FAIRLY DRY...AND AS A RESULT MOST CONVECTION THAT DEVELOPED
TODAY RESULTED IN LITTLE RAINFALL...BUT BRIEF LOCAL GUSTS OVER 40
MPH HAVE BEEN REPORTED. THE LOSS OF DAYTIME HEATING HAS LED TO A
GRADUAL DECREASE IN CONVECTION. HOWEVER...HIGH-RESOLUTION MODELS
INSIST A FEW SHOWERS WILL PERSIST LATE INTO THE NIGHT ACROSS
NORTHERN UTAH DUE TO SOME LINGERING INSTABILITY AND WEAK RIPPLES
EMBEDDED IN THE FLOW OVER THE AREA.

MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO TREND UPWARD THE NEXT FEW
DAYS...ESPECIALLY AHEAD OF A CLOSED LOW THAT IS EXPECTED TO TRACK
ACROSS THE DESERT SOUTHWEST TOMORROW NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT.
THIS WILL LEAD TO AN INCREASE IN SHOWER/THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE ALONG
WITH AN INCREASED CHANCE OF MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION.

UPDATED THE FORECAST MAINLY TO ADJUST POPS/SKY FOR THE REST OF THE
NIGHT...AND ALSO BUMPED OVERNIGHT MINS UP A COUPLE DEGREES FOR SOME
NORTHERN ZONES DUE TO EXPECTED CLOUD COVER.

&&

.AVIATION...NORTHWEST WINDS WILL PREVAIL AT THE SALT LAKE CITY
TERMINAL UNTIL ABOUT 05-06Z THEN SWITCH TO SOUTHEASTERLY.
HOWEVER...PASSING SHOWERS COULD RESULT IN ERRATIC WINDS THROUGH
ABOUT 09Z. ANY CIGS WILL REMAIN ABOVE 7000 FT AGL.

&&

.SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
UT...NONE.
WY...NONE.
