Area Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...
Warm, spring days will continue today and tomorrow, allowing
temperatures to be reach several degrees above normal for this
time of year. Monday looks to be the warmer of the two, with high
temperatures in the 70s and potentially 80s for some valley
locations. A few scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop
for southwest Montana and central Idaho Monday afternoon and
evening which could produce locally gusty winds and rainfall.

Breezy winds will increase ahead of the next low pressure system
approaching Tuesday. The initial wave of moisture Tuesday is
expected to spread some showers with a slight chance of
thunderstorms, along with cooler temperatures, across the Northern
Rockies as it progresses eastward. A potential break in wet
weather is looking more likely early Wednesday before another
surge of moisture pushes into the region. Forecast models have
been very inconsistent on handling this system, but the consensus
appears to be that cooler and potentially heavier, more impactful
rainfall could be expected late Wednesday into the rest of the
week.

.AVIATION...High pressure building on the east side of the divide
will help a northerly and easterly pressure gradient develop
through western Montana today. Light northerly and easterly winds
can be expected this morning through this afternoon. A weak ridge
will be over Idaho and western Montana for the next two days so
other than some passing high cloud cover very nice spring weather
can be expected.
