AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BOISE ID
304 PM MDT SAT APR 18 2015

.SHORT TERM...WEAK SURFACE COLD FRONT FROM THE NORTHWEST HAS NOT
COOLED TEMPS BUT NORTHWEST WINDS HAVE INCREASED...ESPECIALLY ON THE
IDAHO SIDE...DUE TO THE ASSOCIATED SHORT WAVE TROUGH ALOFT. WINDS
WILL DIMINISH TONIGHT. CLEAR SKIES AND DRY AIR WILL PROMOTE
RADIATIONAL COOLING. MIN TEMPS SUNDAY MORNING WILL BE A LITTLE
COLDER THAN THIS MORNING. THEN GRADUAL WARMING THROUGH MONDAY AS
UPPER RIDGE ALONG THE COAST BEGINS TO COME INLAND.

.LONG TERM...MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY...A WARM UPPER LEVEL
RIDGE WILL KEEP SOUTHEAST OREGON AND SOUTHWEST IDAHO DRY THROUGH
TUESDAY NIGHT...WITH TEMPERATURES AROUND 10 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. ON
WEDNESDAY MODELS WEAKEN THE RIDGE AND SHIFT IT EAST OF OUR AREA...
ALLOWING AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE CALIFORNIA COAST TO SPREAD
SHOWERS INLAND ACROSS THE INTERMOUNTAIN REGION. MODEL DIFFERENCES
AMPLIFY STARTING THURSDAY NIGHT. BUT ALTHOUGH FORECAST PATTERNS
DIFFER...THERE IS SUPPORT FOR AT LEAST A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS
THROUGH SATURDAY...AS ENSEMBLES MAINTAIN TROUGHING OVER THE
INTERMOUNTAIN AREA. A COOLING TREND STARTING THURSDAY WILL LOWER
TEMPERATURES TO NEAR NORMAL FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR. AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE COAST WILL MAINTAIN
MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES THROUGH SUNDAY. SURFACE WINDS...NORTHWEST 15-
25G35 KTS...DECREASING TO 10-15 KTS AFTER 03Z. LIGHT WINDS ON
SUNDAY. WINDS ALOFT...NORTH 15-25 KTS UP THROUGH 10K FT MSL.
