JANUARY 2008 –  Colder and Drier than Normal 

     A storm system on the 4^th and 5^th produced strong winds through the area with a 78 mph wind gust recorded at the Natrona County 
International Airport.      

     A storm system on the 19^th-21^st produced 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Casper area followed by by sub-zero temperatures on the 22^nd.   

     Another storm produced strong wind gusts across Natrona County on the 27^thwith a gust of 66 mph recorded at the airport. 

     The average temperature for Casper was 22.3 degrees which was 1.8 degrees below normal.  The highest temperature was 48 degrees
which occurred on the 5th.  The lowest temperature was -11 degrees which occurred on the 22nd.     Total precipitation for the month was
0.30 inches which was 0.28 inches below normal. The greatest daily snowfall of 1.9 inches fell on the 17th.

FEBRUARY 2008 – Drier and Slightly Warmer than Normal

     A Valentine’s Day Winter Storm dumped 3 to 7 inches of snow across the Casper area with 19 inches recorded on Casper Mountain.

      The average temperature for Casper was 27.8 degrees which was 1.1 degrees above normal. Though the daily high warmed above
freezing seven times in February,  and no minimums fell below zero, there were no daily temperature records broken last month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.37 inches which was only 58 percent of normal. The greatest daily snowfall was 3.4 inches
that fell on the 13th.

MARCH 2008 – Colder and Slightly Drier than Normal

     March roared in like a lion with a storm dumping 3 to 6 inches of snow across the Casper area on the 1^st with 12 to 14 inches on Casper Mountain.

     The average temperature for Casper was 32.3 degrees which was 2.7 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 60 degrees which
occurred on the 24^th.  The lowest reading was 10 which occurred on the 28th. No records were broken during March.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.69 inches which was only 77 percent of normal.  The greatest daily snowfall was 2.0 inches
that fell on the 1st. The highest wind gust was 56 mph which occurred on the 29th.

APRIL 2008 – Colder and Slightly Drier than Normal 

     A late April snowstorm dumped 3 to 5 inches of snow across the Casper area on the 25^th and 26^th with 10 inches on Casper Mountain.

     The average temperature for Casper was 39.7 degrees which was 3.0 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 84 degrees on the 30^th.
The lowest reading was 6 below zero on the 12th.  Two record low temperatures occurred.  The low temperature fell to 14 degrees on the 7^th which tied the record last set in 1973.  On the 25^th, the low fell to 18 degrees which broke the old record of 20 set in 1985.

     Total precipitation for the month was 1.27 inches; 84 percent of normal. The greatest daily snowfall was 3.5 inches that fell on the 30th. The highest wind gust was 63 mph which occurred on the 20th.

 MAY 2008 – 5^th Wettest May on Record, Tornado on Southside

      A snowstorm dumped over a foot of snow on Casper Mountain on May 1^st and 2^nd with 3 to 5 inches in town.

     
     
     A severe thunderstorm tracked across eastern Natrona County for nearly two hours on the 7th producing large hail and even a short-lived tornado.  No injuries or damage were attributed to the tornado.

      A big blow to ongoing dry conditions occurred May 21^st – 26^th across Central Wyoming;  1 to 3 inches of rain fell across the Casper area.

      The average temperature for Casper was 49.7 degrees which was 2.4 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 85 degrees which occurred on the 21^st.  The lowest reading was 20 which occurred on the 2nd. No daily temperature records were set during the month of May.

      Total precipitation for the month was 4.26 inches which was 179 Percent of normal. This was the 5th wettest May during the period of Record since 1940.  No daily precipitation records were set.  The greatest daily snowfall was 4.8 inches that fell on the 2nd. The Highest wind gust was 52 mph which occurred on the 22nd.

 JUNE 2008 – 8th Coolest on Record

      The average temperature for Casper was 59.2 degrees which was 3.5 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 93 degrees on the 30^th.  The lowest reading was 34 on the 8th. The low temperature of 38 degrees on the 29^th tied the record low previously set in 1969.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.57 inches which was only 40 percent of normal.   No daily precipitation records were set.  The greatest daily rainfall was 0.21 inches that fell on the 10th. The highest wind gust was 64 mph which occurred on the 25th.

 JULY 2008 – Peak Wind Gust 81 MPH for 2008, Dry and Slightly Warmer than Normal

      The average temperature for Casper was 71.6 degrees which was 1.6 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 99 degrees which occurred on the 27^th.  The lowest reading was 37 which occurred on the 13th.  Record high temperatures were set on the 26^th and the 27^th.  Record lows were set on the 12^th, 13^th and 19^th.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.66 inches which was 0.63 Inches below normal, or 51 percent of normal.  The greatest daily rainfall was 0.52 inches that fell on the 6th. The highest wind gust was 81 mph which occurred on the 27th.

 AUGUST 2008 – Near Normal for Temperature and Precipitation

      The average temperature for Casper was 68.3 degrees which was 0.3 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 99 degrees which occurred on the 1^st.  The lowest reading was 36 which occurred on the 28^th.  The 99 degree high on the 1^st first set a record for the date breaking the old record of 97 set in 2000.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.72 inches which was 0.01 inch below normal.  The greatest daily rainfall was 0.38 inches that fell on the 15th.  Daily precipitation records were set on both the 14^th and the 15^th .  The highest wind gust was 49 mph which occurred on the 10^th, 21^st and 25^th.

SEPTEMBER 2008 – Temperatures and Precipitation Slightly Below Normal

     The average temperature for Casper was 55.7 degrees which was 1.9 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 97 degrees which occurred on the 25^th while the lowest reading was 15 which occurred on the 24^th. The 32 degree low temperatures on the 2nd and 3rd were records for the dates.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.75 inches which was 0.23 inch below normal.  The greatest daily rainfall was 0.26 inches that fell on the 10th.  No daily precipitation records were set during September.

OCTOBER 2008 – Warm Start and Finish, Cool and Wet Overall

      A Columbus Day weekend storm dumped 8 to 10 inches of snow across the Casper area.

     The average temperature for Casper was 44.8 degrees which was 0.9 Degrees below normal. The highest reading was 80 degrees which occurred on the 1st and 2nd.  The lowest reading was 17 which occurred on the 26th and 27th. Only one record was surpassed this month, a record high on the 31st with a temperature of 70 degrees.

      Total precipitation for the month was 1.58 inches which was 139 Percent of normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 0.46 inches that fell on the 21st. Total snowfall for October was 9.4 inches which Was 2.3 inches above normal. Majority of this snow fell between the 10th and 12th.

 NOVEMBER 2008 – Warm and Dry, Fourth Least Snowiest November

       The average temperature for Casper was 38.8 degrees which was 6.8 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 71 degrees which occurred on the 2nd. The lowest reading was 11 which occurred on the 21^st and 27^th. Two records were set this month. A record high of 70 degrees occurred on the 2^nd and a record high of 68 degrees occurred on the 18^th.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.36 inches which was only 44 percent of normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 0.18 inches on the 11th.  Total snowfall was 0.8 inches. This was 11.2 inches below normal.  0.6 inches of this snow fell on the last day of the month.

DECEMBER 2008 – Cooler and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper was 18.8 degrees which was 5.0 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 56 degrees which occurred on the 2^nd. The lowest reading was 20 below zero which occurred on the 15th.  Record low temperatures were broken on both the 14^th and 15^th when the mercury dipped to 18 below and 20 below, respectively.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.38 inches which was 61 percent of normal. The greatest daily rainfall was 0.17 inches on the 8^th. Total snowfall for December was 11.2 inches. This was 0.7 inches below normal.  4.4 inches of this total fell on the 8th. 

      The highest wind gust was 68 mph and occurred on the 25^th.
