 JANUARY 2010 –  Drier and Warmer Than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper in January was 26.4 degrees which was 4.1 degrees above
the normal average temperature of 22.3 degrees. The highest reading was 46 degrees which occurred 
on the 17th. The lowest reading was
27 below zero which occurred on the 6th and set a record low 
for that day. The old record was 21 below zero set in 1973. This was also the coldest temperature for
 
2010.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.09 inches which is 0.49 inches below the normal amount of
 
0.58 inches.  That made January 2010 the 6th driest January on record. Casper received just 2.8 
inches of snowfall for the month which is 8.3 inches below the average of 11.1 inches.

 

FEBRUARY 2010 - Slightly Cooler and Drier Than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper in February was 24.0 degrees which was 2.7 degrees below 
the normal average temperature of 26.7 degrees. The highest reading was 46 degrees which
occurred on the 27th. The lowest reading was 14 below zero which occurred on the 14th. Two
record daily low temperatures were set in February; 14 below on the 14th and 9 below on the 22nd.
     Total precipitation for the month was 0.53 inches which was 83 percent of the normal amount of 
0.64 of an inch for February.  Casper received 10.7 inches of snowfall for the month which is 1.1
inches above average. Significant snow fell on the
18th and the 20th and 21st.
The highest wind gust was 40 mph out of the southwest on the 24th.
 

MARCH 2010 –  6th Wettest March on Record Along with Below Normal Temperatures

     The average temperature for Casper in March was 38.0 degrees which was 3.0 degrees below 
the normal average temperature of 35.0 degrees. This was the ninth warmest march on record
for Casper.  The highest reading was 67 degrees which occurred on the 30th. The lowest reading
was 8 degrees which occurred on the 20th. No daily temperature records were set in March.
     Total precipitation for the month was 1.57 inches which was 174 percent of the normal of 0.90 
of an inch for March. This was the sixth wettest march since records began back in 1939 and the
wettest since March of 1984. Casper received 12.1 inches of snowfall for the month which is 0.2
inches below average. Significant snow fell on the
5th and 6th as well as the 18th.
     The highest wind gust was 62 mph recorded on the 30th. 
 

 APRIL 2010 – Colder and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper in April was 41.2 degrees which was 1.5 degrees below the 
normal average temperature of 42.7 degrees. The highest reading was 71 degrees which occurred
on the 27th. The lowest reading was 17 degrees occurring on the 26th and 27th, setting a record
low on the 26th.
     Total precipitation for the month of April was 1.11 inches which as 0.41 inches below the average 
April precipitation of 1.52 inches.  Casper received 11.4 inches of snowfall for the month which is
2.4 inches below average for the month. Around a half foot of snow fell on the
6th.
     The highest gust was 61 mph out of the west on the 3rd.
 

MAY 2010 – 2nd Coldest May on Record with Several Record Lows Set

     The average temperature for Casper in May was 46.5 degrees which was 5.6 degrees below the
normal average temperature of 52.1 degrees and makes May 2010 the
second coldest May on
record
for Casper. The highest reading was 86 degrees which occurred on the 28th. The lowest
reading was 18 degrees which occurred on the 8th, and set a new record low for that day.
Casper also saw new record lows set on the 5th and the 6th (20 degrees), the 7th (21 degrees)
and the 30th (29 degrees).
     Total precipitation for May was 2.48 inches which was 0.10 inches above the average may 
precipitation total of 2.38 inches.  Casper received 2.8 inches of snowfall for the month which is
2.1 inches below the average snowfall for the month of 4.9 inches.
The highest wind was 61 mph out of the west on the 4th.
 

JUNE 2010 – Cooler and Wetter than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper in March was 61.0 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees 
below the
normal average temperature of 62.7 degrees. The highest reading was 94 degrees
which occurred on the 29th and 30th. The lowest reading was 38 degrees which occurred on
the 15th. No daily temperature records were set in June.

     Total precipitation for the month was 2.44 inches which was 171 percent of the normal of 
1.43 inches for June. This was the wettest June in Casper since 2003. The highest wind gust 
was 58 mph recorded on the 17th.

 

JULY 2010  – Somewhat Cool and Dry After a Wet 4th

     The average temperature for Casper in July was 69.3 degrees which was 0.7 degrees below the
normal average temperature of 70.0 degrees. One record high reading was tied on the 26th with
98 degrees. Two daily record low temperatures were set on the 8th with 38 degrees, and on the
24th with 45 degrees.  Two daily record lows were tied on the 7th with 39 degrees, and on the
15th with 42 degrees.
     Total precipitation for the month was 1.06 inches which was 82 percent of the normal of 1.29 
inches for July. 0.69 inches of rain fell on July 4th breaking the record for that date. The highest
wind gust was 53 mph was recorded on the 18th.
 

AUGUST 2010  – Well Below Precipitation and Slightly Warmer Than Normal

     The average temperature for Casper in August was 70.3 degrees which was 1.7 degrees above
the normal average temperature of 68.6 degrees. The highest temperature for the month was
97 degrees on the 18th and the 22nd.  This tied the record high for the 22nd.  The lowest
temperature for the month was 39 degrees on the 24th which set a record low for that day.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.40 inches which was 0.33 inches below the average 
August precipitation of 0.73 inches.  

     The highest recorded wind gust for the month was 52 mph.
 

 

SEPTEMBER 2010  – Quite Dry and Warmer Than Normal

     The average temperature in September was 60.0 degrees which was 2.4 degrees above the
normal average temperature of 57.6 degrees. The highest temperature for the month was 92
degrees on the
19th and the 28th and set new record highs for those days.  A record high of
90 degrees was also set on the 26th.  The lowest temperature for the month was 28 degrees
on the
7th which set a record low for that day.  Record lows of 31 degrees were also set on the
3rd and the 6th.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.28 inches which was 0.70 inches below the average 
precipitation of 0.98 inches, making September 2010 the 11th driest September on record for
Casper.
 

OCTOBER 2010 – Warm and Dry

     The average temperature for Casper in October was 50.3 degrees which was 4.6 degrees
above the normal average temperature of 47.5 degrees. The highest temperature for the month
was 86 degrees on the 3rd. This was a new record high for this date. The old record was 85 set in
1992. The lowest temperature for the month was 23 degrees on the 7th. No low record lows were
set for this month.
     Total precipitation for the month was 0.56 inches which was 0.58 inches below the average for
October. The average wind speed for the month was 10.3 mph.
The peak wind gust was 53
mph on the 24th.
 

NOVEMBER 2010 –  Slightly cooler and wetter

     The average temperature for Casper in November was 31.4 degrees which was 0.6 degrees below 
normal. Only one daily record was set during the month a record low of 10 below that was set on the 
24th.

    Total precipitation for the month of November was 0.85 inches which was 104 percent of normal. 
During the month 8.8 inches of snow fell which was only 42 percent of normal. Average wind speed 
for the month was 12.4 mph.  The peak wind gust was 55 mph on the 18th.
 

 

DECEMBER 2010 – Quite wet and mild


     The average temperature for Casper in December was 27.0 degrees which was 3.2 degrees above 
normal. There were no record high or low temperatures set in December. The warmest reading for
the month was 51 degrees on the 14th. The lowest reading was 19 below zero on the
17th.
     Total precipitation for December was 1.36 inches which was 183 percent of normal. During the 
month 15.8 inches of snow fell which was 3.9 inches above normal. The greatest snowfall was 7.3
inches on the 15th of the month.
 
The average wind speed for the month was 12.8 mph. The peak wind gust was 69 mph on the 15th,
