JANUARY 2008 – Colder and Slightly Drier than Normal    

     High winds were recorded near Lander on the 4th and 5th with a 78 mph gust near Red Canyon, the airport recorded a gust of 48 mph. However, the peak wind gust for the month was 52 mph on the 27th.

      The average temperature for Lander was 14.7 degrees which was 5.6 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was 48 degrees which occurred on the 4th. The lowest temperature was -22 degrees which occurred on the 22nd.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.21 inches which was 0.31 Inches below normal. The greatest daily snowfall of 5.1 inches fell on the 20th.

 

FEBRUARY 2008 – Slightly Cooler and Wetter than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 25.3 degrees which was 0.3 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was 51 degrees which occurred on the 10th and the 28th. The lowest temperature was 1 degree below which occurred on the 5th.  No daily records were set during the month of February.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.69 inches which was 128 Percent of normal. The greatest daily snowfall was 4.7 inches that fell between the 13th and 14th of February.

 

MARCH 2008 – 78 mph Wind Gust Highest for the Year, Much Drier and Slightly Cooler than Normal

    The average temperature for Lander was 32.9 degrees which was 2.6 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 57 degrees which occurred on the 24th. The lowest reading was 8 which occurred on the 6th.  No records were broken during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.58 inches which was only 47 percent of normal. The greatest daily snowfall was 4.0 inches that fell on the 4th. The highest wind gust for the month and all of 2008 was 78 mph which occurred on the 29th.

 

APRIL 2008 – Much Drier and Slightly Cooler than Normal

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 40.9 degrees which was 3 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 75 degrees which occurred on the 29th. The lowest reading was 11 which occurred on the 1st.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.90 inches which was 43 percent of normal. 12.3 inches of snow fell which was 7.6 inches below normal. The greatest daily snowfall was 5 inches on the 24th which also broke the record of 3.4 inches on that date set back in 1993. The highest reported wind gust was 67 mph which occurred on the 20th.

MAY 2008 – Wettest May on Record! 6.13 Inches of Precipitation

     The average temperature for Lander was 50.7 degrees which was 2.7 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 83 degrees which occurred on the 18th. The lowest reading was 27 which occurred on the 3rd.

     Total precipitation for the month was 6.13 inches which was 258 Percent of normal and the highest rainfall total for the month of May since records began back in 1891. The 1.91 inches of rain that fell on the 26th broke the old record of 1.14 inches set in 1997.  4.50 inches of rain fell between the 21st and 26th.  12.7 inches of snow fell which was 5.6 inches above normal. The 0.5 inches of snow on the 26th was a record total for that date. The greatest daily snowfall was 4 inches on the 1st. The highest reported wind gust was 63 mph which occurred on the 20th in association with severe thunderstorms that moved through the area.

 

JUNE 2008 – Slightly Cooler and Drier than Normal

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 61.0 degrees which was 2.7 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 89 degrees which occurred on the 30th. The lowest reading was 35 which occurred on the 8th and 13th. No daily temperature records were set in June.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.82 inches which was 71 percent of normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.52 Inches which fell on the 5th. No daily precipitation records were set in June. The highest reported wind gust was 67 mph which occurred on the 24th.


JULY 2008 – Slightly Warmer and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 73.4 degrees which was 2.5 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 96 degrees which occurred on the 27th. The lowest reading was 44 which occurred on the 12th. No daily temperature records were set in July.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.21 inches which was 0.63 inches below normal, or 25 percent of normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.20 inches which fell on the 22nd. No daily precipitation records were set in July. The highest reported wind gust was 62 mph which occurred on the 26th.

 

AUGUST 2008 – Precipitation 147 Percent of Normal, Slightly Warmer than Normal

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 70.4 degrees which was 1.0 Degrees above normal. The highest reading was 98 degrees which occurred on the 1st while the lowest reading was 46 which occurred on the 27th. The 96 degree reading on the 2nd tied a record for the date, previously set in 2001.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.84 inches which was 0.27 Inches above normal or 147 percent of normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.74 inches which fell on the 15th. The 0.74 inches of rain that fell on the 15th set a new record for the date. The highest reported wind gust was 41 mph which occurred on the 9th.

 

SEPTEMBER 2008 – Slightly Cooler and Drier than Normal

      The average temperature for Lander was 57.0 degrees which was 1.7 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 84 degrees which occurred on the 17th and the 25th while the lowest reading was 36 which occurred on the 2nd. No daily temperature records were set in September.

      Total precipitation for the month was 0.80 inches which was 0.34 inches below normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.18 inches which fell on the 4th. No daily precipitation records were set in September.

 

OCTOBER 2008 – Much Wetter and Slightly Cooler than Normal

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 44.5 degrees which was 1.9 Degrees below normal. The highest reading was 80 degrees which occurred on the 1st while the lowest reading was 11 which occurred on the 13th. Only one daily temperature record was surpassed this month with a daily low record of 13 degrees set on the 14th.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 2.21 inches which was 161 Percent of normal.  The highest daily precipitation total was 0.87 of an inch which fell on the 11th. There was 30.2 inches of snow that fell during October and the greatest period of snowfall was 29.7 Inches that fell between the 10th and the 12th.

 

NOVEMBER 2008 – Fourth Warmest November on Record

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 38.7 degrees which was 8.4 Degrees above normal, the fourth warmest November on record. The highest reading was 67 degrees which occurred on the 17th which set a new record high for the date.  The lowest reading was 16 degrees which occurred on the 22nd and the 24th.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.21 inches which was only 21 percent of normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.16 of an inch which fell on the 10th. There was 0.1 inches of snow that fell during November and this occurred on the 14th of the Month.  This monthly snowfall was 15.9 inches below normal.

 

     The peak wind gust occurred on the 3rd of the month and this was from the northwest at 48 mph.

 

 
DECEMBER 2008 – Near Normal Temperatures and Precipitation

 

     The average temperature for Lander was 21.6 degrees which was 0.3 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 59 degrees which occurred on the 6th. The lowest reading was 13 degrees below zero which occurred on the 15th. There were no new temperature records set in December.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.54 inches which was 89 percent of normal. The highest daily precipitation total was 0.33 of an inch which fell on the 26th. There was 10.5 inches of snow that fell during December 5.6 inches of which occurred on the 26th.   This monthly snowfall was 0.7 inches below normal.

 

     The peak wind gust of 76 mph out of the southwest occurred on the 30th
