JANUARY 2010 – Cooler and Drier than Normal

The average temperature for Lander was 17.3 degrees which was 3.0 degrees below
the normal of 20.3 degrees. The highest temperature for January was 43 degrees
which occurred on the 19th. The lowest reading was 16 degrees below zero which
occurred on the 7th.
No record temperatures were recorded for January.

Total precipitation for the month was 0.37 inches which was 0.15 inches below the normal
of 0.52 inches for the month. Lander received 5.5 inches of snowfall in January which was
4.4 inches below average.

The maximum wind gust of 30 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 19th.

 

FEBRUARY 2010 – 11th Snowiest on Record, Colder than Normal

The average temperature for Lander was 21.6 degrees which was 4.0
degrees below the normal. The highest temperature for February was 42
degrees which occurred on the 28th. The lowest reading was 5 below

below zero which occurred on the 22nd which was also a record low for this date.
Total precipitation for the month was 0.76 inches which was 141
percent of normal. Lander received 22.5 inches of snowfall in
February which was 245 percent of normal and making it the 11th
snowiest February since 1892.
The peak wind gust was 29 mph out of the northwest on the 13th. 
 

MARCH 2010 – Wetter, Snowier than Normal

The average temperature for Lander was 36.4 degrees which was 0.9
degrees above the normal. The highest temperature for March was 64
degrees which occurred on the 17th. The lowest reading was 8 degrees
which occurred on the 20th. No daily record temperatures were set in March.

Total precipitation for the month was 1.87 inches which was 151 percent of
normal.

Lander received 23.7 inches of snowfall in March which was 6.1 inches above
normal. 8.1 inches of snow fell on the 19th which set a daily snowfall record
for this date.

The highest wind gust of 48 mph out of the southwest occurred on the 30th.
 

APRIL 2010 – Cooler and Wetter than Normal

The average temperature for Lander was 42.6 degrees which was 1.3 degrees
below the normal. The highest temperature for the month was 72 degrees
which occurred on the 19th. The lowest reading was 20 degrees which occurred
on the 4th. No daily record temperatures were set in April.

Total precipitation for the month was 2.29 inches which was 0.22 inches
above the normal April precipitation of 2.07 inches. Lander received 18.4
inches of snowfall in April which was 1.5 inches below normal. 

The highest wind gust of 56 mph out of the west southwest occurred on the 3rd.

 

MAY 2010 - 5th Coldest, 11th Snowiest on Record

The average temperature for Lander in May was 46.8 degrees which was
6.6 degrees below the normal and ties May of 1892 for the 5th coldest May on
record.
The highest temperature for the month was 82 degrees which occurred
on the 28th. The lowest reading was 19 degrees which occurred on the 7th and
set a new record low temperature for that day.
Total precipitation for the month was 4.70 inches which was 197 percent of normal.
Lander received 16.5 inches of snowfall in May which was 231 percent of normal. 
A snowstorm on the 11th and 12th dumped around a foot of snow in Lander and over

three feet in the Wind River Mountains

The peak wind gust for the month was 70 mph out of the south on the 28th. 
 

  

JUNE 2010 - Fremont County Flood of 2010

Record flooding occurred in the Wind River Basin after much above average
snowpack and an unseasonably cool and wet Spring were followed by warm
temperatures and additional rain and snow in early June. 

The average temperature for Lander was 60.9 degrees which was 2.8
degrees below the normal of 63.7 degrees. The highest temperature
was 93 degrees which occurred on the 29th. The lowest reading was 37
degrees which occurred on the 12th. No daily record temperatures
were set in June.
Total precipitation for the month was 1.92 inches which was 167
percent of normal. 1.20 inches of rain fell on the 12th.
The highest wind gust of 58 mph out of the northwest occurred on the 4th
 

JULY 2010 – Slightly Cooler and Drier than Normal

The average temperature for Lander was 70.7 degrees which was 0.2 degrees
below the normal.  The highest temperature was 97 degrees which occurred on
the 26th and set a new record high for the date. The lowest reading was 41
degrees which occurred on the 7th.
Total precipitation for the month was 0.63 inches which was 75 percent of normal.
0.28 inches of rain fell on the 4th.
The highest wind gust recorded during July was 64 mph which occurred on the 1st .
 

 

AUGUST 2010 – Cooler and Slightly Wetter than Normal

The average temperature for Lander in August was 69.8
degrees which was only 0.4 degrees above the normal of 69.4
degrees. The highest temperature was 95 degrees which occurred on
the 18th, 22nd and the 26th.  This reading set a new record high on the 26th.
The lowest reading was 38 degrees which occurred on the 31st.
Total precipitation for the month was 0.23 inches which was 40 percent of normal. 
The Highest wind gust recorded during August was 66 mph out of the southwest on the 30th.
 

SEPTEMBER 2010 – Tied for 7th Driest on Record

The average temperature for Lander in September was 62.1
degrees which was 3.4 degrees above the normal of 58.7 degrees.
The highest temperature was 90 degrees which occurred on the 4th and
the 19th.  This reading set a new record high for the 19th.  Record highs
were also set on the 26th (88 degrees) and the 28th (89 degrees).
The lowest reading was 36 degrees which occurred on the 6th.
Lander only 0.02 inches of precipitation fall during the entire
month of September; only six Septembers on record were drier with either
a trace or 0.01 inches of precipitation. No snow fell during the month.

 Highest wind gust recorded during September was 56 mph out of the southwest on the 9th.

 

OCTOBER 2010 – 4th Warmest, 10th Driest on Record, Snowless

The average temperature for Lander in October was 51.8
degrees which was 5.4 degrees above the normal of 46.4 degrees.
This was the fourth warmest October on record. The highest
temperature was 86 degrees which occurred on the 3rd. This was a
record high which broke the old record of 83 set in 1917 and also a
record high so late in the season.  A record high of 82 was tied on the
2nd of the month. The lowest temperature was 21 degrees which
occurred on the 28th.  The first freeze occurred on the 25th when
the temperature fell to 30 degrees.
Lander had only 0.18 inches of precipitation in October or only 13 percent 
of normal. This was the tenth driest October on record.
No snow fell in October.  13 other Octobers with no snow are on record since 1892.
The peak wind gust was 51 mph out of the northwest on the 25th.

     

 

NOVEMBER 2010 – Warmer and Drier than Normal

The average temperature for Lander in November was 32.7 degrees which
was 2.4 degrees above the normal. There were two daily record highs set
in November: 69 degrees on the 5th, and 70 degrees
on the 6th. 
No record lows were set during the month. 
Lander had only 0.75 inches of precipitation in November which was
76 percent of normal. 
7.6 inches of snow fell during the month which was only 27 percent of normal. 
The peak wind gust was 46 mph out of the southeast on the 23th.
 

DECEMBER 2010 – Much Warmer and Slightly Wetter than Normal

The average temperature for Lander in December was 26.4 degrees
which was 5.1 degrees above the normal. There were no record high or
low temperatures set in December. The warmest temperature for the
month was 56 degrees on the 13th. The coldest reading was 13 below
zero on the 31st.

Lander had 0.78 inches of precipitation in December which was 128 percent
of normal. 0.62 inches of precipiation fell on the 30th which set a new daily
precipitation record for the date.  Snowfall for the month was 9.7 inches. This
was 1.5 inches below normal. The greatest snowfall amount was 8.3
inches on the 30th
which also set a new daily snowfall record for the date.
