JANUARY 2011 – Sub-Zero Start to 2011, Low 50s by Mid-January; Wetter, Snowier than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 22.7 degrees which was 1.0 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for January was 51 degrees which occurred on the 16th and 17th.
The lowest reading was 13 degrees
below zero which occurred on New Year's Day. 
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.59 inches which was 144 percent of normal. Lander received 9.4 inches
of snowfall in January which was 124 percent of normal.  0.34 inches of precipitation fell in the form of 6.1 inches of
snow on the 9th, setting both a new daily snowfall and precipitation record for the date.

     The maximum wind gust of 48 mph out of the northwest was recorded on the 22nd.

 

FEBRUARY 2011 – Much Colder, 13th Wettest, 17th Snowiest on Record

     The average temperature for Lander was 18.6 degrees which was 6.6 degrees below normal. The highest
temperature for February was 57 degrees on the 15th; a new record high for the date.
The lowest reading
was 20 degrees below zero on the 2nd. 

     Total precipitation for the month was 1.39 inches which was 240 percent of normal. Lander received 18.8 inches
of snowfall in February which was 183 percent of normal.  The highest storm total snowfall for 2011 occurred on February 5-8 when 9.9 inches of snow fell.  0.32 inches of precipitation fell in the form of 3.8 inches of
snow on the 25th, tying a new daily precipitation record for the date.

     The maximum wind gust of 53 mph out of the south was recorded on the 16th.

 

 

MARCH 2011 – 6th Driest, 8th Least Snowiest on Record

     The average temperature for Lander was 37.1 degrees which was 1.6 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 69 degrees which occurred on the 31st.
The lowest reading was 15 degrees which occurred on the 1st.  No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.28 inches which was only 24 percent of normal.  2.6 inches of snow
fell during the month which was only 16 percent of normal. 

     The maximum wind gust of 69 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 16th, which was also the highest
gust recorded in 2011.

APRIL 2011 – Colder and Much Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 41.8 degrees which was 2.1 degrees below normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 70 degrees which occurred on the 2nd.
The lowest reading was 16 degrees on
the 4th.  
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 1.10 inches which was 59 percent of normal. Lander received only 8.5
inches of snowfall in the normally snowiest month of the year, which was only 51 percent of normal.

     The maximum wind gust of 60 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 2nd.

 

 

MAY 2011 – Wettest on Record, 10th Coldest on Record

     The average temperature for Lander was 47.9 degrees which was 5.6 degrees below normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 72 degrees which occurred on the 7th and 8th.
The lowest reading was 25 degrees
which occurred on 1st and 2nd. 
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 6.79 inches which was 309 percent of normal and the wettest May on record. Lander received 12.5 inches of snowfall in May which was 260 percent of percent of normal.  2.52 inches of precipitation fell on the 19th which set a new daily record for the date, was the highest daily total for 2011, and was the 5th highest daily total of all-time.  1.06 inches of precipitation on the 18th also set a new daily record for the date, and the two day total of 3.58 inches on the 18th and 19th was the 7th highest two day total of all-time.  6.0 inches of snowfall on the 19th set a new daily snowfall record for the date.  5.4 inches on the 29th also set a new daily snowfall record for the date. 

     The maximum wind gust of 60 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 2nd.

JUNE 2011 – 71 MPH Wind Gust - Highest of 2011, Colder and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 60.9 degrees which was 2.1 degrees below normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 92 degrees which occurred on the 28th.
The lowest reading was 36 degrees
which occurred on the 3rd and 10th. 
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.55 inches which was 43 percent of normal.  Lander received no snowfall during the month.

     The maximum wind gust of 71 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 6th.  This was also the highest wind gust recorded in 2011.  The fastest two-minute wind speed of 54 mph for 2011 also occurred on the 6th.


 

 

JULY 2011 – Tied for 6th Driest on Record, Warmer than Normal.

     The average temperature for Lander was 73.3 degrees which was 2.1 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month and 2011 was 97 degrees which occurred on the 25th, and also tied the record high
for the date..
The lowest reading was 50 degrees on the 1st. 

     Total precipitation for the month was only 0.07 inches which was 9 percent of normal; 0.06 inches of this
total occurred on the 7th.

     The maximum wind gust of 55 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 10th.

AUGUST 2011 – 8th Warmest, Much Drier than Normal

      The average temperature for Lander was 72.7 degrees which was 3.1 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 96 degrees which occurred on the 24th.
The lowest reading was 49 degrees
on the 12th.  
Two new record highs were set, 96 degrees on the 24th and 95 degrees on the 27th.  The 96
degree reading on the 24th also set a new record for high temperature so late in the season.  August had 16 days
with temperatures of 90 degrees or greater which also tied a record last set in 2003. 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.13 inches which was 21 percent of normal. 

     The maximum wind gust of 51 mph out of the southwest was recorded on the 30th.

SEPTEMBER 2011 – Warmer and Drier than Normal, Very Mild Start to Autumn

     The average temperature for Lander was 61.9 degrees which was 3.3 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 88 degrees which occurred on the 1st.
The lowest reading was 34 degrees
on the 21st. 
A high of 84 on the 24th and 85 on the 25th tied record highs for the respective dates.  7 of the
last 8 days in September had highs of 80 degrees or greater.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.66 inches which was 63 percent of normal. The wettest day of the month was on the 14th when 0.32 inches of rain fell.  No snow fell during the month.

     The maximum wind gust of 38 mph out of the northeast was recorded on the 19th.

 

 

 

OCTOBER 2011 – Warmer and Wetter than Normal

      The average temperature for Lander was 49.2 degrees which was 3.6 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 85 degrees which occurred on the 1st.
The lowest reading was 23 degrees
on the 27th.  A high of 85 on the 1st tied a record high for the date, and a high of 83 on the 2nd set a new record
for the date.

     Total precipitation for the month was 1.90 inches which was 147 percent of normal. Lander received 4.0 inches
of snowfall during the month which was 41 percent of normal.

     The maximum wind gust of 48 mph out of the south was recorded on the 5th.

     

 

NOVEMBER 2011 – Another Warmer and Wetter than Normal Month

     The average temperature for Lander was 32.3 degrees which was 1.1 degrees above normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 62 degrees which occurred on the 24th.
The lowest reading was 5 degrees
on the 20th.
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.99 inches which was 115 percent of normal. Lander received 9.9 inches
of snowfall during the month which was 76 percent of normal.

     The maximum wind gust of 67 mph out of the west was recorded on the 14th.

 

 

DECEMBER 2011 – Colder, Wetter, Snowier than Normal

     The average temperature for Lander was 16.6 degrees which was 4.1 degrees below normal. The highest
temperature for the month was 53 degrees which occurred on the 30th.
The lowest reading was 9 degrees
below zero which occurred on the 6th. 
No daily record temperatures were set or tied during the month.  There were only six days in December when high temperatures exceeded 32 degrees; the last six days of the month. 

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.97 inches which was 167 percent of normal. Lander received 15.2 inches
of snowfall in during the month which was 150 percent of normal.  
0.68 inches of precipitation fell in the form of 8.4 inches of snow on the 21st, setting both a new daily snowfall and precipitation record for the date.
