JANUARY 2008 – Drier and Slightly Cooler than Normal

      Riverton’s average monthly temperature was 12.1 degrees which was 2.8 degrees below normal.  Temperatures ranged from 25 degrees below zero on the 22nd to 41 degrees on the 27th.

      The monthly precipitation total of 0.09 inches was 0.19 inches below normal. Snowfall for the month was 5.7 inches.

      The peak wind gust was 51 mph out of the south on the 5th.


FEBRUARY 2008 – Much Warmer and Drier than Normal

     Riverton’s average monthly temperature was 26.8 degrees which was 4.7 degrees below normal.  Temperatures ranged from 2 degrees below zero on the 5th to 55 degrees on the 28th.

     The monthly precipitation total of 0.19 inches was 0.06 inches below normal. Snowfall for the month was 5.4 inches.

     The peak wind gust was 48 mph out of the west northwest on the 7th.


MARCH 2008 – Cooler and Much Drier than Normal

     Riverton’s average monthly temperature was 33.1 degrees which was 1.8 degrees below normal.  Temperatures ranged from 9 degrees on the 6th to 60 degrees on the 24th.

     The monthly precipitation total of 0.19 inches was 0.29 inches below normal. Snowfall for the month was 4.0 inches.

     The peak wind gust was 56 mph out of the west on the 29th.


APRIL 2008 –   Cooler and Drier than Normal

     Riverton’s average monthly temperature was 41.1 degrees which was 3.0 degrees below normal.  Temperatures ranged from 10 degrees on the 1st to 77 degrees on the 29th.

    The monthly precipitation total of 0.38 inches was 0.63 inches below normal. Snowfall for the month was 6.1 inches.

    The peak wind gust was 62 mph out of the southwest on the 20th.


MAY
2008 – Second Wettest May on Record

     The average temperature for Riverton was 51.4 degrees which was 2.4 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 86 degrees which occurred on the 18th. The lowest reading was 25 which occurred on the 3rd. No records were broken last month.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was 4.81 inches which was 270 Percent of normal. This makes it the 2nd wettest May in the record books. Most of this precipitation fell during a 7 day period between the 21st and the 27th, when 4.36 inches of fell, including 2 inches on the 26th and 1.55 inches on the 22nd.

     The peak wind gust for the month and year was 74 mph out of the west on the 20th.


JUNE 2008 – A Dry Month with 24 Percent of Normal Precipitation

     The average temperature for Riverton was 62.3 degrees which was 1.4 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 93 degrees which occurred on the 30th.   The lowest reading was 35 which occurred on the 11th.  No daily temperature records were broken last month.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.27 inches which was only 24 percent of normal. The greatest daily total was 0.23 inches on the 5th. No daily precipitation records were set in June.

      The peak wind gust was 64 mph out of the south on the 30th


 
JULY 2008 – Only a Trace of Precipitation, Warmer than Normal

     The average temperature for Riverton was 73.8 degrees which was 3.5 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 98 degrees which occurred on the 27th. The lowest reading was 43 which occurred on the 12th. A record high temperature of 98 degrees was set on the 27th. No record lows were set.

      Total precipitation for the month was a trace which was 0.73 Inches below normal.  1921, 1953 and 1957 were the only other years on the climate record with July precipitation of a trace or zero.

 

      The highest wind gust was 45 mph which occurred on the 4th and the 24th, both gusts out of the west southwest. 

 


AUGUST 2008 – Slightly Warmer and Wetter than Normal

     Riverton’s average temperature for the month was 70.5 degrees which was 2.3 degrees above normal.   The highest temperature for the month and year was 99 degrees on the 1st. The lowest temperature was 46 on the 27th.

     Total precipitation for the month was 0.59 inches which was 0.10 inches above normal. The day with the greatest rainfall was 0.40 inches on the 14th.

     The peak wind gust was 54 mph out of the northwest on the 31st.


SEPTEMBER 2008 – Slightly Cooler and Drier than Normal, No Snow.

      The average temperature for Riverton was 57.3 degrees which was 1.3 degrees below normal. The highest reading was 84 degrees which occurred on the 25th. The lowest reading was 33 which occurred on the 2nd. The 33 degrees low on the 2nd broke the record for the date.

      Total precipitation for the month was a 0.67 inches which was 0.21 inches below normal.  No daily precipitation records were set in September.

 

      The peak wind gust was 44 mph out of the northwest on the 1st. 

 


OCTOBER 2008 – Over a Foot of Snow over Columbus Day Weekend, Otherwise Near Normal Temperature and Precipitation

     The average temperature for Riverton was 44.5 degrees which was 0.3 Degrees below normal. The highest reading was 78 degrees which occurred on the 1st and 2nd. The lowest reading was  11 on the 13th which was also a record low temperature for the date. 

     Total precipitation for the month was a 0.77 of an inch which was 95 percent of normal. The greatest daily precipitation was 0.42 of an inch that fell on the 11th. There was 12.3 inches of snowfall during the month with 12.1 inches of snow falling during the early winter storm between the 10th and the 12th.

 

     The peak wind gust was 60 mph out of the west northwest on the 25th.

 


NOVEMBER 2008 – Fifth Warmest November on Record, Much Drier than Normal

    The average temperature for Riverton was 36.8 degrees which was 8.6 degrees below normal.  The highest reading was 67 degrees which occurred on the 2nd. The lowest reading was 13 which occurred on the 24th.  There were 3 records set this month. 64 set on the 1st, 67 set On the 2nd, and 58 set on the 17th.

     Total precipitation for the month was a 0.13 inches which was only 28 percent of normal. The greatest daily precipitation was 0.11 of an inch that fell on the 30th. There was 1.1 inches of snowfall during the month with 1.0 inches of snow falling on the 30th of the month.

     The peak wind gust was 51 mph out of the west northwest on the 21st.

DECEMBER 2008 – Much Warmer and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Riverton was 19.6 degrees which was 3.7 degrees above normal. The highest reading was 56 degrees which occurred on the 7th. The lowest reading was 16 below zero which occurred on the 15th. There were no daily temperature records set this month.

 

     Total precipitation for the month was a 0.10 inches which was only 28 percent of normal. The greatest daily precipitation was 0.08 of an inch that fell on the 26th. There was 2.2 inches of snowfall during the month with 1.8 inches of snow falling on the 26th of the month.

 

     The highest wind gust of the month was 59 mph out of the west which occurred on the 30th.
