JANUARY 2010 – Tied for Second Driest on Record    

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 21.4 degrees which
was 2.4 degrees above normal.  The highest temperature for the month
was 39 degrees which occurred on the 17th. The lowest temperature for
the month and the year was 13 degrees below zero which occurred on the
8th.  No temperature records were set during January.
      Total precipitation for the month was 0.04 inches which was only 
7 percent of normal, and tied January 1986 for the second driest on record.
  The driest January on record was in 2004 when only 0.02 inches of
precipitation was recorded.  All 0.04 of precipitation this month was recorded
on the 22nd. 
     The peak wind gust was 48 mph out of the west on the 23rd.
 

FEBRUARY 2010 – Fifth Driest on Record

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 32.1 degrees which
was 0.8 of a degree above normal.  The highest temperature for the month
was 41 degrees which occurred on the 28th. The lowest temperature for the
month was zero degrees which occurred on the 22nd. No temperature
records were set during February.
     The total precipitation for the month was 0.07 inches which was
only 13 percent of normal and also the fifth driest February on record.
     The peak wind gust of 45 mph out of the west occurred on the 13th.
 

MARCH 2010 – Warmer and Drier than Normal

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 33.7 degrees which 
was 2.1 degrees above normal.  The highest temperature for the
month was 61 degrees which occurred on the 17th. The lowest
temperature for the month was 9 degrees which occurred on the
20th. No daily temperature records were set during March.
     The total precipitation for the month was 0.49 inches which was 63
percent of normal.
     The peak wind gust of 68 mph out of the west was recorded on the 30th.
 

APRIL 2010 – Wetter than Normal, Near Normal Temperatures 

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 39.5 degrees which was
only 0.2 degrees below the normal of 39.7 degrees. The highest
temperature for the month was 69 degrees which occurred on the
19th and 20th. The lowest temperature for the month was 18
degrees which occurred on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th. No daily

temperature records were set during April.
     The total precipitation for the month was 1.29 inche which was 126 
percent of normal.
     The peak wind gust for the month of 59 mph out of the south occurred on the 21st.
 

 

May 2010 - Coldest on Record

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 44.7 degrees.  This was
4.6 degrees below the normal of 49.3 degrees and makes May of
2010 the coldest on record for Rock Springs.
The previous record
was 44.9 degrees in 1953.  The highest temperature for the month
was 80 degrees which occurred on the 28th. The lowest temperature
for the month was 18 degrees which occurred on the 5th and 7th and
tied, set new record low temperatures for those days, respectively. 
The low of 18 degrees on the 7th also set a new record low so late in the season.
     The total precipitation for the month was 1.18 inches which was 87 percent of 
normal.  0.30 inches of precipitation fell on the 18th which set a new daily precipitation
record for this date.
    The peak wind gust for the month of 63 mph out of the south occurred on the 28th.

 

 

JUNE 2010 – Wetter than Normal, Near Normal Temperatures

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 59.9 degrees which
was 0.3 degrees above normal. The highest temperature for
the month was 89 degrees which occurred on the 29th. The lowest
temperature for the month was 33 degrees which occurred on the
17th. No daily temperature records were set during the month.
    The total precipitation for the month was 1.11 inches which was
163 percent of normal. The greatest daily precipitation was 0.38
inches on the 12th.
     The highest wind gust of 67 mph out of the west was recorded on
the 10th.
 

JULY 2010 – Record Rain on the Fourth, But Overall Drier and Warmer than Normal

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 68.6 degrees which
was 1.8 degrees above normal.  The highest temperature for the month
was 93 degrees which occurred on the 26th and was the only daily high
temperature record that fell in July. The lowest temperature for the month
was 43 degrees which occurred on the 7th
and the 9th and also broke a
daily low record on the 9th.

 

     The total precipitation for the month was 0.70 inches which was

75 percent of normal. The greatest daily precipitation was 0.38

inches on the 4th, and this amount also set a daily precipitation record for the date.   

 

     The highest wind gust of 51 mph out of the west was recorded on

the 13th.
 

AUGUST 2010 – Drier and Slightly Warmer than Normal

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 66.0 degrees which 0.8 degrees
above the normal of 65.2 degrees. The highest temperature for the month was 90
degrees which occurred on the 18th and 22nd. No record highs were set during the
month. The lowest temperature for the month was 42 degrees which occurred on
the 24th and the 31st.  No record lows were set in August.

     The total precipitation for the month was 0.37 inches which was only 64 percent
of normal. 

    The highest wind gust during the month was 63 mph out of the west on the 29th.

 

SEPTEMBER 2010 – 10th Warmest on Record, Tied for 7th Driest on Record

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 59.6 degrees which was
4.7 degrees above the normal of 54.9 degrees, and makes September
2010 the 10th warmest September on record for Rock Springs. The
highest temperature for the month was 86 degrees which occurred on
the 4th and 19th.  This temperature set a record high for the 19th. 
The lowest temperature for the month was 35 degrees which occurred
on the 6th and 7th.

15 percent of normal, and ties September 1964 and September 1977
for the 7th  driest September on record for Rock Springs.

OCTOBER 2010 - Warmer and Drier than Normal    

     The average temperature for Rock Springs was 48.0 degrees which was
4.5 degrees above normal. The highest temperature for the month was
80 degrees which occurred on the 3rd, a new record high for the date.
A record high of 78 degrees was set on the 2nd.  The lowest temperature
for the month was 17 degrees which occurred on the 28th.  The first freeze
occurred on the 13th when the low dipped to 32 degrees.   
     The total precipitation for the month was 0.50 inches which was
43 percent of normal.

      The peak wind gust for the month and year was 76 mph out of the south on the 6th.

 

NOVEMBER 2010 – Warmer and Drier than Normal

The average temperature for Rock Springs was 29.3 degrees which
was 0.5 degrees above normal. Two daily record high temperatures
were set during November with 61 degrees set on the 2nd and 65
degrees on the 6th. One daily record low was set during the month:
6 below on the 24th.
The total precipitation for the month was 0.21 inches which was only
33 percent of normal.  
The peak wind gust was 64 mph out of the west on the 16th. 

   

 

DECEMBER 2010 – Sixth Wettest December on Record

The average temperature for Rock Springs was 24.1 degrees which
was 3.9 degrees above normal. No record high or low temperatures
were set in December. The warmest temperature was 49 degrees on the

13th.  The coldest reading was 9 below zero on the 31st.

 

The total precipitation for the month was 1.07 inches which was

175 percent of normal, and goes down as the sixth wettest December

on record. 0.35 inches fell on the 19th which set a new daily precipitation
record for the date.
 

 The peak wind gust was 54 mph out of the west on the 10th.
