Final December 25-27th Snowstorm
Totals
December 27, 2003 - A vigorous upper
level system ejected into the central Rockies on December 25th, bringing
with it a large band of moderate to heavy snow to parts of the the Cowboy
State.
The snow was heaviest across west central Wyoming Thursday night and
continued into Friday and Friday night. Snow initially developed across central
Wyoming Thursday evening as a warm front pushed north through the Wind
River Basin. Snow continued to develop along the west to east
oriented boundary Thursday night and Friday. On Friday, the low
pressure area made its trek from Rock Springs at 8AM
to South Pass City by 11AM and to the Kaycee area by 2PM.
Temperatures mainly remained above freezing for areas extending from
eastern Sweetwater County northeast to Casper (Casper's high temperature
reached 50˚F on Friday). Warmer
temperatures along with some dry air, limited snowfall amounts in
these areas. Winds kicked up in Sweetwater and Johnson Counties
Friday night, causing visibilities to drop as a result of blowing and
drifting snow. Winter weather conditions made travel difficult
across the western half of Wyoming from December 25-27th.
Here are the final storm total snowfall
reports beginning on Christmas night through December 27th. The
National Weather Service would like to thank ALL of our spotters
who aided in this report.
