JANUARY 2005 – Record Highest Minimum Set, 9th Driest on Record  

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 28.2 degrees which was 5.9 degrees above normal.   This average resulted in tie for the 10 th warmest January on record.    Daily record high temperatures were set on the 19th (54F), 20 (57F), and the 24 th (56F).   One record low was set on the 14 th (5F).   One all time record high minimum temperature for January was set on the 20 th (43F).   A daily record high precipitation and snowfall total was set on the 30 th when .05 inches of precipitation and 2 inches of snow fell.    January 2005 was the 9 th driest on record with only 0.15 inches of moisture, 0.43 inches below normal.   Snowfall for the month was 9.2 inches which was 1.9 inches below normal.

FEBRUARY 2005 – Driest on Record, 9th Warmest on Record

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 32.2 degrees which was 5.5 degrees above normal.   This average resulted in the 9 th warmest February on record. No daily record high or low temperatures were set during the month.   This February was the second driest on record with only 0.13 inches of precipitation falling.   The driest February was 0.06 inches in 1941.   Snowfall for the month was 2.4 inches which was 7.6 inches below normal.   The February snowfall total was the third lowest on record.  The lowest snowfall total was 1.1 inches in 1941.

MARCH 2005 – Near Normal Overall

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 36.0 degrees which was 1.0 degree above normal. Daily record high temperatures were set on the 6 th (62F) and on the 11 th (67F).   No daily record low temperatures were set during the month.  Precipitation was close to normal with 0.83 inches which was 0.07 inches below normal.   Daily precipitation records were set on the 21 st (0.23) and on the 30 th (0.12).   Snowfall for the month was 10.0 inches which was 2.3 inches below normal.

APRIL 2005 – Near Normal Temperatures, Below Normal Precipitation

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 42.4 degrees which was 0.3 degrees below normal.  No daily record high temperatures were set.   A record low temperature of 27 degrees occurred on the 28 th.    The monthly precipitation total of 1.04 inches was 0.48 inches below normal.   Snowfall for the month was 13.5 inches which was 0.3 inches below normal.   Most of April’s snowfall occurred on the 27 th (4.5 inches) and 28 th (5.3 inches) for a two day total of 9.8 inches.   The two individual days set daily snowfall records; however the two day total lagged far behind the record two day total of 23 inches set on April 18-19, 1973.

MAY 2005 – Record Lows to Start, Wetter than Normal

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 50.7 degrees which was 1.4 degrees below normal for May.   Record lows of 17 degrees were set on the first two days of the month, and this reading was only one degree off the all time record low of 16 degrees for May.   The total precipitation was 2.63 which was 0.25 inches above normal.   A record daily rainfall of 0.87 inches occurred on the 11 th.   The previous record was 0.47 inches in 1985.   Total snowfall for the month was 2.0 inches, all of which occurred on the 11 th.     This snowfall total was 2.9 inches below normal.

JUNE 2005 – Slightly Below Normal Temperatures and Below Normal Precipitation

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 61.8 degrees which was 0.9 degrees below normal.   Casper had a record low temperature of 36 on the 10 th and 33 on the 11 th. The total precipitation for June was 0.41 inches which was 0.41 inches below normal.

JULY 2005 - All-Time Record High Tied, Flash Flooding on the 25th

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 72.6 degrees which was 2.6 degrees above normal.     Casper had record highs of 99, 103, 104, 99, and 103 degrees on the 9 th, 13 th, 16 th, 20 th, and 22 nd respectively.   The record high of 104 degrees tied the all-time record high of 104 degrees for Casper .    A record low of 45 was set on the 27 th , and a record low of 44 degrees was tied on the 18 th.   The total precipitation for July was 1.32 inches which was 0.03 inches below normal.    The 1.00 inches of rainfall on the 25 th set a one day precipitation record, and also produced flash flooding in the Casper area with most of this rainfall occurring within a 30 minute period late in the afternoon.   1.44 inches fell within this short duration at one reporting location one-half mile west of downtown.    A wind gust of 62 mph was also recorded as this line of thunderstorms and heavy rain moved through the airport.

AUGUST 2005 – 3rd Wettest on Record, Cooler than Normal

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 66.3 degrees  which was 2.3 degrees below normal.    Casper had no record high temperatures but set a new record low temperature of 39 degrees on the 26 th.   Total precipitation for August was 2.24 inches which was 1.51 inches above normal, making this the 3 rd wettest August on record.   The wettest August stands at 2.79 inches in 1941.   A one day precipitation record was set on the 3 rd with 1.09 inches.   On August 3 rd,   thunderstorms producing very heavy rainfall resulted in flash flooding on the southeast side of Casper in the Glendale and Allendale subdivisions.

SEPTEMBER 2005 – 9th Driest on Record, Above Normal Temperatures

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 61.1 degrees, which was 3.5 degrees above normal.   Casper had one record high temperature of 92 degrees on the 8 th with no record low temperatures.   Total precipitation was 0.23 inches which was 0.75 inches below normal tying the 9 th driest September on record.   The driest September was in 1956 with 0.07 inches.

OCTOBER 2005 – Warmer than Normal, Normal Precipitation, Below Normal Snowfall

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 48.3 degrees which was 2.6 degrees above normal.   No record highs or lows were set during the month.   The total precipitation was 1.18 inches which was 0.04 inches above normal.   Nearly one-half of the monthly total precipitation fell on the 9 th when 0.51 inches of rainfall set a daily precipitation record.   Casper received 3.5 inches of snowfall which was 3.6 inches below normal.   The record snowfall amount was 22.4 inches in 1949.

NOVEMBER 2005 - Warmer and Drier than Normal

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 37.7 degrees which was a very warm 5.7 degrees above normal, the 12 th warmest November on record.    One record high was set with 70 degrees on the 10 th.   The record high was only 2 degrees off the all time record high for November of 72 degrees set in 1999.   No record lows were set.   The total precipitation was only 0.56 inches which was only 68 percent of normal.  A one day precipitation record was set on the 30 th with 0.15 inches falling as 2.4 inches of snow.   Total snowfall for the month was 88 percent of normal with 10.5 inches.

DECEMBER 2005 - Cold and Snowy Start, Warm and Mild Ending

Casper ’s average monthly temperature was 24.6 degrees which was 0.8 degrees above normal.   The month started out cold with sub-zero readings and ended with several days of highs near 50 degrees. One record low temperature was set on December 7 th when the temperature plunged to 23 degrees below zero breaking the previous record of 18 degrees below zero in 1972.   A record high temperature of 53 degrees on the 38 th broke the previous record high of 50 degrees set in 1994.   Also, a temperature of 53 degrees on the 26 th tied a previous record high set in 1980.   The total precipitation was 0.29 inches which was the 14 th driest December on record.   Snowfall was 4.8 inches which was 7.1 inches below normal.
