May 2011 will be most noted for the deadly tornadoes of May 22, especially in the Joplin area which was devestated by an EF-5 tornado.  The month also had numerous other strong to severe storms with heavy rain and flooding, especially along the White River basin.  Most locations had well above normal rainfall for the month which led to below normal temperatures.
