...December 2008 Climate Summary...

While the records for the month of December 2008 were all record highs, the average temperature for the month of December 2008 across the Missouri Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas was below normal.  Much of the first half of the month was spent in much below normal temperatures as quite a few strong Canadian air masses pounded into the region.  These cold and dry air masses also kept precipitation totals below normal readings in most locations.  Much above normal temperatures occurred over the final week of the year which brought the monthly normal temperatures closer to normal for the month.  A strong storm system affected the area on the 27th bringing a couple of tornadoes and additional reports of damaging winds across the area.
