Flash Flood Risk Analysis Project

GIS

Flash flood prone areas including low water crossings are being utilzied in NWS warning operations to interagate flash flood potential at specific locations. The flood points have been plotted into Geographic Information Systems software where the flood prone areas can be combined with multiple geographic layers. By combining flash flood risk locations with topography, rivers, roads, soil type, etc, forecasters are able to better assess flash flood potentia. This information can then incorporated into the flash flood warnings and statements.
