CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST KANSAS.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

AFTERNOON HEAT INDICES ARE EXPECTED TO REACH INTO THE 101 TO 109
DEGREES...WITH THE HOTTEST CONDITIONS IN NORTHEAST AND EAST
CENTRAL KANSAS.

THE RANGELAND FIRE DANGER INDEX WILL BE IN THE VERY HIGH CATEGORY
SOUTH AND WEST OF A LINE FROM MINNEAPOLIS TO JUNCTION CITY TO
COUNCIL GROVE.

THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE LATE THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT MAINLY
NEAR AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 70...WITH THE BEST CHANCE IN NORTH
CENTRAL KANSAS. IF STORMS DEVELOP BY EARLY EVENING...THEY
MAY PRODUCE LOCALLY STRONG WIND GUSTS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

HEAT INDICES FRIDAY AFTERNOON ARE EXPECTED TO REACH 101 TO 104
DEGREES.

THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT IN MUCH OF
NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST KANSAS. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES RETURN
ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY BEFORE SPREADING
SOUTH INTO EAST CENTRAL KANSAS SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TOPEKA HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM CDT
SATURDAY.

* TEMPERATURE...HEAT INDICES OF 100 TO 108 DEGREES WILL OCCUR
  THIS AFTERNOON AND AGAIN SATURDAY AFTERNOON LASTING INTO THE
  EVENING HOURS EACH DAY.

* IMPACTS...EXCESSIVE HEAT OF THIS NATURE CAN RAPIDLY CAUSE HEAT
  RELATED SICKNESS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN HIGH HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TO
COMBINE WITH HOT TEMPERATURES TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS
105 DEGREES OR GREATER. PERSONS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID PROLONGED
WORK IN THE SUN...OR IN POORLY VENTILATED AREAS. ALSO KEEP PLENTY
OF LIQUIDS ON HAND AND TRY TO STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED
ENVIRONMENT.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE
AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT
SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN
