- Determine if the TAMDAR sensor can deliver reliable and accurate
meteorological data when flying on a commercial airline fleet.
- Determine whether TAMDAR can help NWS meteorologists in field offices
produce warnings and forecasts with greater precision and accuracy.
- Evaluate the effect of TAMDAR data when included in the Rapid Update
Cycle (RUC) numerical weather prediction model.

- AirDat will have a 24 hour a day engineering center in Evergreen,
Colorado. They will monitor data from each aircraft and arrange for
repair or replacement of faulty sensors.
- The Forecast Systems Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado will quality
control the data further before it is included in the RUC model
- National Weather Service meteorologists in field offices will compare
TAMDAR to other upper air data sources (radiosondes, wind profilers,
WSR-88D VAD wind profiles, etc), and report discrepancies to AirDat via
a message board.

- NWS meteorologists will use TAMDAR in forecasts and warning in the
following program areas
- Severe Convective Storms
- Assessing Stability
- Monitoring capping inversions
- Determine potential for rotating storms
- Aviation Forecasts
- Detect low level wind shear
- Locate moist layers and inversions for cloud and fog forecasting
- Winter Weather
- Determine freezing level and locations of temperature inversions to
forecast precipitation type of winter storms
- Fire Weather
- Soundings will be used in narrative, point and spot forecasts
- - Marine Weather
- . Determine winds and stability upstream
of lakes and oceans for wind and
- wave forecasts

- TAMDAR will be used as input in retrospective runs of the RUC model and
compared to model runs without TAMDAR data
- Skill scores will be computed to determine if TAMDAR increases the
accuracy of model output
- TAMDAR may be included in real time RUC output later in the GLFE if FSL
resources permit

- If TAMDAR proves to be a reliable, accurate source of upper air data,
AirDat plans to proceed with a larger scale implementation of TAMDAR
with other airlines and airfreight companies
