FEBRUARY 2005 CLIMATIC SUMMARY

The strong upper level ridge of high pressure which dominated the weather over the last half of January, continued to dominate the weather through the month of February, bringing mild temperatures and dry weather. There was only one intrusion of arctic air, lasting from the 6th through the 8th. This system brought some light snow to the region as well.

February was a very warm month with all locations reporting above normal temperatures. Temperatures on the whole, averaged 4 to 8 degrees above normal. Faith was the hot spot averaging 8.9 degrees above normal. Pactola Dam was the cool spot averaging 1.7 degrees above normal.

Precipitation averaged 40 to 60 percent below normal, with many locations having one of the ten driest February’s on record. Only 4 locations received above normal precipitation. Snowfall was 30 to 50 percent below normal. Interior was the dry spot receiving only 4 percent of its normal precipitation, while Camp Crook was the wet spot with 161 percent of normal precipitation.
