May 22, 2010 Tornado in Winner, SD

A tornado tracked through Winner, South Dakota the evening of Saturday, May 22. Minor damage occurred along 3rd Street from East Park Street to U.S. Highway 18. The tornado strengthened east of town and destroyed two barns about a mile and a half east of Winner along S.D. Highway 44. The track was almost three miles long and about 400 feet wide. A damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service estimated the strongest winds reached 95 to 115 mph based on the extent of damage, with wind speeds in town around 75 mph. The tornado was given a rating of EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
