June 20, 2010 Tornado in Wall, SD

A small tornado hit the western side of Wall, South Dakota the evening of Sunday, June 20.  Winds destroyed a hangar at the Wall airport and tossed the airplanes inside it several yards.  One plane landed in a row of cedar trees across the street along with the remnants of the hangar.  That damage indicated wind speeds around 100 mph, which is rated EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Uprooted trees and broken tree branches throughout town were typical of 75 to 80 mph wind speeds.
