Much-needed Rain falls across the Black Hills Region

April 16, 2012 - After a record-breaking dry March, western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming received much needed rainfall from Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 15. The heaviest rain fell over the northern Black Hills, the plains east of the Black Hills, and south central South Dakota.  In addition, the northern Black Hills received several inches of snow.  The Rapid City Regional Airport set a daily precipitation record for April 14 with 0.90 inches, exceeding the previous record of 0.51 inches that fell on April 14, 1970. The table at the bottom of the page lists rainfall amounts reported to the National Weather Service from early Saturday morning through Sunday.
