A tornado caused damage in the Ardmore area in extreme southwestern South Dakota the evening of Friday, June 22, 2012. It touched down between Edgemont and Ardmore and traveled east, destroying a barn and several sheds on a ranch north of Ardmore.
A damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service determined the tornado's rating as an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which means winds were estimated between 110 and 120 mph. The track length was at least eight miles long and about a half mile wide.
