April 2013 – One of the Coldest and Snowiest on Record

It was quite chilly and very snowy across much of northeast Wyoming and western South Dakota for the first 3 weeks of this month. Normally, most locations would be enjoying temperatures in the 50s and lower 60s and rain showers should be more common than snow showers. But this was not the case for much of April. Temperatures were mainly in the 30s and 40s much of the month and three significant snow storms dumped one to three feet of snow across much of the area. Toward the end of the month, the warm weather melted much of the snow and allowed the monthly average temperatures to creep up several tenths of a degree.

So how does April 2013 compare to Aprils of the past? The tables below show the temperatures and snowfall records and rankings for a few locations across northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota. If you would like more information on weather records for selected locations, please visit the individual stations listed under the climate summaries for area cities section on our local climate page.
