CHARLESTON SC-BERKELEY SC-
515 AM EDT WED JUN 3 2015

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHARLESTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MINOR FLOODING FOR POOR DRAINAGE AREAS FOR...
CHARLESTON COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA...
BERKELEY COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA...

* UNTIL 645 AM EDT

* AT 512 AM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED HEAVY RAIN DUE TO
THUNDERSTORMS. THIS WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING. OVERFLOWING POOR
DRAINAGE AREAS WILL RESULT IN MINOR FLOODING IN THE ADVISORY AREA.
UP TO 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN IN MANY
COMMUNITIES...BUT AS MUCH AS 6 INCHES NEAR MCCLELLANVILLE.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
  CHARLESTON...NORTH CHARLESTON...MOUNT PLEASANT...MCCLELLANVILLE AND
  DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON.

AN ADDITIONAL 1/2 TO 1 INCH OF RAIN IS EXPECTED OVER THE AREA. MINOR
FLOODING OF LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IS LIKELY. SEVERAL
ROADS HAVE BEEN CLOSED IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON AS A RESULT OF
STANDING WATER. PLAN ALTERNATE ROUTES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THIS HEAVY RAINFALL WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT PONDING OF WATER ON
AREA ROADS AND IN LOW SPOTS. SLOW DOWN TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
HYDROPLANING. IF WATER COVERS THE ENTIRE ROADWAY OR IS FLOWING...FIND
ANOTHER ROUTE. THE WATER IS PROBABLY MUCH DEEPER THAN IT APPEARS AND
ONLY ONE FOOT OF WATER CAN STALL A VEHICLE. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

HEAVY RAIN IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON WILL RESULT IN NUISANCE FLOODING OF
LOW-LYING AREAS. AREAS MOST PRONE TO FLOODING INCLUDE THE MARKET...
CROSSTOWN...EAST BAY STREET...AND MORRISON DRIVE. SLOW DOWN WHEN
TRAVELING...ALLOWING EXTRA DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND THE VEHICLE
AHEAD...AND DO NOT DRIVE INTO WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH.
