Graphical depiction of the weather story for today.

Thunderstorms currently moving into the Midwest will affect much of Illinois today. The strongest storms are expected in the afternoon and evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Some of the storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging wind gusts, and torrential downpours. The severe weather threat will decrease after sunset: however, heavy rain may become an issue across central and southeast Illinois tonight as the storms sink further south and repeatedly develop over the same areas.
